Default Unacceptable or part of the design: Two leather colors on Nikki bags...

So for anyone who saw my stonewash blue thread, my SB Nikki that just arrived has two totally different leather colors on the side. Thought this was a missed quality control thing, BUT then I saw on the LB website that the new cloud grey bag they advertise has the mismatching leather thing going on too!

What the heck is going on here with quality control at RM? Or do you ladies think this is on purpose for some reason? And would YOU buy a bag with this "issue"???

Here are the LB pictures...

I absolutely would NOT want a bag with mismatched leather panels! Esepcially one that I've paid hundreds of dollars for. I'm very disappointed to see so many of these - I think that makes 4 now I've seen in the the past few weeks. If I received a bag in this condition I would return it, which just goes to show I'd better make sure I buy my RM bags from a dealer that accepts returns.

I vote for "it's a quality control issue." A "luxury" designer bag retailing $600 should have matching leather panels. Just my opinion. True, I am A.R., but designer = the highest quality of its kind. Again, just my opinion.

I totally agree with you guys...I was just wondering if I was the only crazy one thinking this is unacceptable! Obviously not! Hopefully someone from RM will see this. I've emailed Cory but she hasn't emailed me back yet...

My dark gray nikki has two different textures. My husband says that is natural for leather to be all different textures and colors..My other RMs have some slight differences in color and texture throughout the leather and this does not bother me at all..I think they should be able to match large pieces like that better..My dark gray has one wrinkly and one smooth on each side. I want a new one and sell this one to someone who thinks it adds character to the bag! I wrote an email to Cory and she said that it was meant to be that way without seeing pics. Here are some pics..the shade looks off in a few pics..maybe the flash brings it out..I don't notice the shade only the texture. the second and third are accurate with the shade. It is not horrible, but it does bother me..It does not keep me from carrying the bag..It is not noticeable when carrying it..It was my very first RM though..I should probably just keep and LOVE it!

How about "an unacceptable part of the design?". I've seen so many of these I wonder if they really don't do it on purpose. Or "accidentally on purpose". Which is fine, if it were included in descriptions as part of the design of the bag, so we could judge for ourselves if we wanted it or not.

I mean, really, you have slightly darker panels and slightly lighter panels. Is it REALLY that hard to sew together 2 dark panels or 2 light panels?

My RM bags have some varying degree of mismatch in color and texture, except for the pebbled ones - the BBW MAM with new hardware and my Ruby MAM from LB. My Wine Nikki has slight color and texture differences between the panels but not noticeable, thankfully, and my Black MAM from the Resort 2007 collection has varying degrees of distress on different parts of the bag. I think many of the bags have at least a slight difference in color and/or texture, but they should at least try to match the panels so it is not so obvious! Even if it is the nature of the leather, others looking at the bag will think it is poorly made and cheap IMHO. There is a reason why logo bags like LV have their patterns lined up...

^^wow that is horrible neatfreak and kimber!! I definitely would NOT want a bag like that...

There are parts of my sunshine bag where some parts are more distressed than others, but thats how the bag is supposed to be so thats OK, but as far as ONE color, not distressed, i couldn't keep a bag like that.

I know leather ages differently, and is natural, but still i couldn't live with it.

It does look bad on that stock pic. My MAM has different textures on the front and back, but that doesn't bother me. I think it looks worse/more noticeable on the Nikki.

I know...someone from RM told me I should take it up with Muse Ten..and I said that I did not think it was their problem..It is the way the bag came from RM and they should take care of it..They did not even ask to see pics and said it was normal..I know my other bags have variations but not like this..It does bother me, but what can I do? The bag cannot be found except poss eBay.

I don't like it, and I can't imagine why they'd do it on purpose. It might be something I'd find acceptable in a sample sale bag, but not in a full price $600 bag. You certainly don't see mismatching leather on MJ bags or even Botkier for that matter.

I think it's really bad quality control. My friend had the same thing happen on her nikki, it is very obvious. I really don't know how they can put two completely different shades of leather together and think it's ok. It's as if someone just slapped it together without even looking at the leather. This, other quality control issues, and lack of discount codes is making it very difficult to support this brand. I haven't seen this in other brands, not even the cheaper ones. This is completely unacceptable in a $600 bag, or for that matter, $100 bag. It makes it look like you are carrying a defective bag that you bought discounted at a cheap price.

I don't think they do this on purpose but I also don't think they see it as a flaw.. I think it is part of the design to have varying shades of leather.. some are perfectly matched and some are not but they are all beautiful in my opinion.

If it's advertised that way there isn't much we can do about it I'm afraid..

My tangerine MAM is like this. It has differing colors of the orange on different parts of the bag. Like the handles are a different color than the front of the bag, and the back of the bag is a different color. Also, the "flap" thing covering the zipper on the front is also the same mismatched color as the handles.

I am not a fan of it at all, but I did manage to get the bag on sale @ ShopBop, and didn't want to go through the hassles of a return or exchange.

But it makes me worried about buying another RM in the future...
