unfortunately my forest green nikki has the varying texture on the panels, on both sides:( but it's an extremely rare/nonexistent bag, so i'm keeping it. I'm hoping that the less distressed side will become more distressed as I use the bag more.

as for the wine bags, RM posted on here that if anyone is unhappy with their wine bags, feel free to contact her or Cory. I'm being issued a new wine nikki because i was unhappy (the bag had a 4 inch cut). RM is more than happy to resolve any issues that customers have with the pre-order wine bags.

I had an older Nikki I got rid of that had this problem. Also, the texture of the leather on the front was very different from the one on the back. Less annoying than having it on the same side, but it still bugged me. I'm nervous for my Wine Nikki pre-order. I find this upsetting because this lack of quality control and inconsistent customer service is typical of some newer and slightly less expensive brands, but based on the price and reputation I expect RM to always provide flawless products with great CS. I hope this improves soon.

This, other quality control issues, and lack of discount codes is making it very difficult to support this brand. I haven't seen this in other brands, not even the cheaper ones. This is completely unacceptable in a $600 bag, or for that matter, $100 bag. It makes it look like you are carrying a defective bag that you bought discounted at a cheap price.
I totally agree with your post. Since, RM has taken away the codes, I'm not purchasing anywhere near what I otherwise would. And, money aside, it's just I don't see the high quality for the price point.

That said, I still enjoy my Nikki's. I guess I was lucky and they don't have any leather variation. If they did, I'd return! It would really bother me too.

So the leather was the same when you first got it? Maybe one panel is just "dryer" than the other. Try conditioning the lighter side, it should make a difference.

I agree with melissa and citychris. I think the variations in texture are perfectly normal (it is leather and not pleather ) but if they are significantly different between panels or the colors don't match then I would agree that it's a QC issue.

I noticed the texture variations in my dark grey nikki too but it's really subtle and the color is uniform throughout so maybe that helps?

Does anyone happen to have a PERFECT bag?

FWIW my jade Nikki has completely uniform texture and color on all parts. And it was a sample sale bag. Go figure.

I'm sorry, I absolutely love RM's bags and don't want to knock them but matching the leather seems like a no-brainer.

There was a whole chat on this about someone's ocean nikki, which obviously was badly matched by the maker in the factory. A shame...some kept saying that "leather takes dye differently and is not a flaw..." but as most of you seem to agree, while that is fine, the "art" of building a handbag in the factory is in matching up the best texture and color match you can for the bag you are assembling...

I would not buy a nikki from somewhere I could not return unless it was in person and I could see it after all I have read. It may just be a few of the colors they have this issue with, but you never know. Still like the bag tho!

The leather variation is not a recent issue. My very first RM Nikki in expresso which I purchased early last year had the leather variation problem. It is quite obvious as they were on the same side. Luckily I was able to return it. My later purchase of royal nikki and stonewash blue nikki didn't have the same problem. Nikki is my favorite RM style and I really hope Rebecca can correct or at least minimize this problem because I definitely don't like that look even if it is unintentional or seen as a problem.

OMG after reading this whole thread and seeing those pics, and remembering some of the problems the girls had on prior threads, I am afraid of ordering a nikki. My mams I can tell you are perfect in every way. I don't see why the nikkis have a problem when they are manufactured. If this is being done on purpose as the look of the bags, then why have some look perfect and some look like disasters. It would be a gamble when ordering a bag. I don't really like that at all. But that is just me. I don't think that for the 600 price of a bag, a bag should look like that. I can't believe that the bag is advertised like that as well on LB. I don't think many people will buy that nikki. I think it looks cheap and poorly done.

Update: Finally spoke to Cory and she said she'd make sure I got another without the mismatching colors if I sent it back. So hopefully RM will make good on it. I also let her know about the thread and that we ALL think it's pretty unacceptable, so hopefully she can pass the word along.

Oh good! That is good of them. I know a little variation is one thing, but I would imagine they are not comfortable with huge variations like that either. Happy for you!

neatfreak- I am glad they are making it right, and ultimately making you happy! However, I am a bit bothered by the fact that this seems to be happening way too often...what ever happened to quality control? RM seems to be lacking in this dept.

ITA. I let Cory know that there was a running thread about this and that everyone felt that RM's quality control and thus their brand integrity is going downhill...so hopefully she'll see this and let others at RM know. It's a shame to pay for a $600 bag and get one that doesn't match for sure!
