Oh my, they need to change their leather distributor. That leather should be drum dyed in the same shade of dye. Maybe no one ever told them to add a new half vat of dye to the existing 1/2 vat of dye before it runs out. Doing so maintains the same color tone. They definately need to address the needs of their loyal customers instead of passing the buck. Just my 2 cents.

I think it is absolutely unacceptable. Especially for the prices they charge. I am not a picky person - but the mismatched panels on the Nikki really bother me. I don't think anyone should have to settle for a bag like that.

I think its a shame that RM thinks it is okay, but it really just looks like they are too lazy to look over the leather samples and match them up.

Hm, maybe RM is aiming for a patchwork look. If I received a bag like that, I'd return it pronto.

I'd have to return the bag too. Its a $600 dollar purse... for $600 dollars the panels should be matched no excuses.

My wine nikki is like Kimbers the leather texture is different on each side. I don't like it. I really think it's a quality control issue.

This discussion worries me. I pre-ordered a Wine Nikki, and since there are no returns the bag better be in perfect (matching) shape! If not, I think that's grounds for return and I hope RM thinks so too. I know the company may be experience growing pains as the bags continue to grow in popularity, but it's still no excuse and I'm sure RM would hate to lose part of her fan base due to lack of quality control. I hope it all gets dealt with soon so i (and everyone else) can feel comfortable buying her bags without fearing these issues.

I have a bag by another designer that has non matching leather panels. It bugs me, but I bought it super cheap at a sample sale so I can't complain. If I had paid $600 it would have definitely been an issue for me.

I don't mind varying texture, but when panels are different shades it's definitely not ok imo. I would be pissed.

I have the same problem with my ocean Nikki. Codi informed me that it is the way the leather is. I hate the 2 different leather colors. The problem only appeared a month in after i had purchased the bag. I don't know what to do, it's not like I can still return it.

That would drive me nuts! They should take the time to match the leather before sewing.

MSG, I really didn't need to read this It seems ever since I pre-ordered my wine Nikki, I seem to read more horror stories than ever. It's hard not to be paranoid at this point there seem to be quite a bit of quality control issues being posted these days.

EDIT: oops half my post seem to have disappeared... I think I'm done pre-ordering with RM directly given her (unwritten) policy of no returns. Like many of you have stated, for $600 I expect perfection and I'm just not willing to take the risk of getting a less than perfect bag and possibly being stuck with it. I'd rather pre-order from a retailer with a better (written) return policy.

Personally it's definitely a no-no for me...I had to return a wine nikki due to the contrasting leather panels (in terms of both color and texture) as well.

cailinzheng~ does it mean that you will not be able to get an exchange for your ocean nikki? >.<

My Jade Nikki is like that too! And I thought I was being too paranoid! But my Nikki was a sample sale steal so I guess I don't have as much of a right to complain. While I agree with others that RM doesn't do it on purpose nor do they see it as a flaw, I personally don't like it at all. I can tolerate my SS Jade Nikki, but I hope my pre-order wine Nikki doesn't turn out like that or I will cry!

I think that subtle variations are fine and can add to the beauty of a bag but that completely different colors or leather textures are unacceptable. I couldn't enjoy a bag like that.
