Default Thinkin' 'bout Christmas already - RM for Mom?
I am an earlybird when it comes to holiday shopping, so of course, I am already making a mental list as to what to get my family!
I am thinking of getting my mom something RM!
Now, my mom really loves purses, but has never, ever owned a designer one. (Partly because she lives in a small, rural community with limited selection of stores and mostly because she won't spend over $100 on a handbag) I KNOW she would LOVE an RM because of the high quality and classic style of the brand. I don't have a ton of $$ to spend on gifts, so what would you recommend I look for? She likes a medium-sized bag, not too small (no clutches) and not too big (no full-size Nikkis), and she also prefers to carry a bag over her shoulder, but could also get used to a tote too. Color, that can go any direction, no preference. Any ideas? TIA!

P.S. That's her in my photo above my sig. She's 5'1" and in her mid-60's.

How about a MAM? A MAB might be more comfy over the shoulder though....although this doesn't work over the shoulder with everyone. OH, how about a darling? VERY comfy over the shoudler and lightweight. I would go in black, BH is amazing in a MAM and the darling is coming out with some beautiful colors. I am sure great sales are getting ready to happen too!

hmm...without me looking back at the threads, didn't you just get a MAB? How did your mom like that bag? BTW...this is a very thoughtful and wonderful gift for your momma!

That's very thoughtful of you. Years ago I purchased an antique diamond [3 diamond] ring for my mother as she never had a diamond ring, as she grew up very poor.

I lost my mum 7 years ago and my life isn't the same without her [it's a void no-one can replace with me] so I encourage all of you who are still lucky to have their mothers in their lives, to cherish what you have.

My mum used to say to me, don't bother giving me flowers when I'm dead: I'd rather have them when I'm alive.

^I needed to hear that. I love my MOM like crazy and we have had some of the most wonderful times together. A few years ago I moved several hours away from her and miss her terribly. Last night she said some very hurtful things and I am so mad and frustrated at her. My DH thinks she is getting a little senile, but she is SO sharp other than when she gets so paranoid and focused on the most ridiculous things! Reading your post it made me realize that I need to call her and forgive her...I am blessed to still have her. Thanks for this post, it came at the perfect time for me.

How about her Mini Nikki or Darling? Attached pic of a Darling and a fringed darling I had a picture of. The fringe may be too young for mom but then again, it all depends on your mom! You are so nice to want to do this for her!

Thanks for all the ideas, ladies! WhiteOrchid, your post brought a tear to me eye! I don't know what I would do if my mom or dad passed away right now...they have done everything they possibly could for me when growing up, even though we were not 'rich' by any means! I definitely feel like 'giving back' to them as an "I love you" and 'Thank you!"

No worries girls. I grew up a single child with a sole parent so I was in a unique situation [it was always just the 2 of us and growing up, I even slept in her bed].

My mother literally collapsed in front of my eyes one morning as I was making her a cuppa [she never regained consciousness and died 3 days later]. That tragedy taught me how frail and tenuous life can be - that your loved one can die at *any* given moment and her death changed my life forever.

So I now I encourage all my friends to make the most of what time they have with their mums [sorry I never met my dad so I don't know what that bond is like].

Heck I've even 'counselled' strangers on the street when they're rude to their mums, lol.

I have no idea what to suggest to you Bacardigirl, though I'm sure she'll appreciate any bag you give her. Mum's are like that - it's more the thought than anything else.

Lol, now I'm all sad again...don't worry I have 4 cats to keep me company [and annoyed!].

White Orchid, What you said tugged at my heart strings.

BacardiGirl, I second a Darling or a Mini Nikki. Get in a colour your mom loves.

Sorry but I would NOT recommend a fringed back for a woman in her 60s. Just my opinion...

I think a mini nikki would be perfect...I'll just have to keep an eye out for a good deal! :)

Sorry to sabotage your thread Bacardigirl, but one last thing then I promise to shut up!

Debpie, if I were you I'd just bite my tongue. I'm a religious girl [Muslim actually] so according to my faith, you have to treat your parents with the utmost respect period.

And we also have the belief [I think similarly with Christianity] that you will be tested, and elderly parents are a test believe me. My mother started saying strange things towards the end [she died a few weeks before her 80th birthday] but I tried to ignore them. We're all going to age and we're all going to say and do strange things as we get older and more frail [my mum loved feeding birds and wanted to do that one time she was in hospital!] so yeah, it's trying and a very emotional time [for a loved one/child to deal with].

I'm rambling...I would just bite my tongue and try to remember all the good she's done for you because truly you just don't know when the good Lord will take her from you. Life is tenuous so make the most of what time you have with your loved ones - especially your mum.

And thus my sermon hath ended
