It took about a year of really heavy use for it to get like that. It's been 6 or 7 months more now, and it hasn't really darkened any more. Just continued to get softer and more broken in. In my opinion, stone wash leathers break in more beautifully than almost any other leather I have seen.

That is just beautiful!! I went in on the first DG Nikki SO and said I was going to sell my Blue SW to even out the cost for it. BUT after seeing those pictures, I'm definitely keeping it!! I've spent more money than my DH would have liked me to on my bags last year so to make him feel better I was going to sell the BSW eventually...not anymore! Thanks for the pics Melissa!

WOW! If you didn't tell me I would have thought that they were two different bags! I didn't realize the scale of darkening we were talking about. So if stonewash blue turns dark blue, would it be safe to predict that the other stonewash leathers would eventually turn into a dark version of its leather color, e.g. stonewash chocolate into dark chocolate, etc.?

Keep in mind, the bag isn't as dark as it appears in that picture. It is definitely darker, but it isn't THAT dark.

That said, I would assume the same thing would happen to other stone wash leathers. I can't say for sure though as this is the only one I have ever owned. It also probably depends on how heavily the bag is used and if you baby the bag or not. I definitely do not baby my bags, so they break in more than someone who might baby their bag.

I just bought a Stonewash Blue Nikki and I didn't know the leather would darken or become oilier, just stay the same. I like it the way it is now. Why would the leather become darker, is that a defect in the leather? I have not known a handbag leather to darken.

Certain types of leather do darken. For example vachetta leather, most popularly used in LV bags, are left untreated. Sunlight will gradually darken the leather to a shade called patina. I'm not sure the specifics of the RM stonewash leathers but the darkening is not a defect in the leather. For your reading pleasure, here's a good article on leather:

ITA with everything that has been said in here regarding the Blue Stonewash leather. It's very soft and easy to buff scratches out of when necessary. It's gotten softer with use and I'm certain will also darken naturally overtime. It's one of the most amazing leathers I own a Nikki in, and anyone hesitating to jump on the SO bandwagon with the Stonewash leathers... should highly, highly consider it! The leathers won't disappoint!
