I cats and their special stories about trips to the vet's office! I'm not a vet yet... but I will be once I pass my national board exam and graduate next June

axcelle - I will definitely keep your story in mind! That's absolutely amazing results from a natural diet, and I'm so happy it has worked for your dog. I, like your vet, have never heard of a case like yours... but I'm sure more dogs could benefit from hearing your dog's story.

Both me and Minou (she's a bilingual kitty). I grew up 10 miles from the Quebec border and my high school was French/English. As were/are most of the road signs on the US side of the border.

Izzy on the other hand is a little bubba cat from the Virginia shore. She speaks Chesapeake. Meow, ya'll.

Her arm is healing - they put a plate in her upper arm under a local anaesthetic and a block which is amazing and she's recovering well. Unfortunately she won't go back to her home (where she was living, on her own two weeks ago) but will go to a nursing home with rehabilitation facilities! I think she'll quite like having her own little community around her.
Thanks for your thoughts

My lab/collie mix would have a seizure every few months. He was not diagnosed with epilepsy though, they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. I used to cook for him because he had a sensitive stomach but I had stopped and switched to regular dogfood and awhile after that the seizures started.

Anyway, I did some research online and found out that BHT/BHA in petfoods can cause seizures so I switched to a dogfood without those preservatives and he has not had one since. The scary thing is those preservatives are also found in human food, so watch what you eat!

Glad your furbabies are okay!

Well, just remember the trick about keeping a bird cage in the kitty exam room as it works wonders for distracting the fur babies. The little birds aren't too happy and they fly to the top of the cage when paws start coming through the bars...

Yes! Oh I found out the commercial pet food industry's dirty little secrets and I have not brought one kibble in my home since. Disgusting! Dyes, fats, industrial slaughterhouse run-off and by-products, yuck. I never give them anything I wouldn't eat myself now (except for the raw meat and bones of course).

He also had seizures from Ivermectin (like in Heartguard) - which as a part-Collie was not a big surprise, yours might have had problems with this too?- , Revolution, Sentinel, and Advantage. Only Frontline(for flea/tick) and Interceptor (for heartworm) seem to have a low threshold for seizure.

Mine never had seizure from Heartguard. I wasn't aware of that, good to know though.

Moi! mais juste un peu
That was the the first thing I learnt when I went on an exchange to Bordeaux. Our french was REALLY basic and when people asked if we spoke french we'd respond "une peu" (which is wrong) but one guy kept telling us "c'est UN PEU" and we finally got that one phrase right hahah. I can't believe that was 5 years ago and now my french is

My mum cooks the meals for our dog. She gets mince meat from the butcher, and cooks it was some veggies and rice. The only 'dog food' our dog eats is the occasional dog biscuit - there are just too many perservatives in those foods
