I would like to take my new DUSTY/SILVER SPOT RM out on Monday for the first time and thought maybe I should protect or treat the leather over the weekend. I have on hand LMB Pro Treatment (creme), Wilson's Leather & Suede Spray Protector and Coach Moisturizer. What do you recommend and do I treat both the Dusty leather as well as the Silver Spot panels? I have seen other questions regarding the Dusty leather as it seems a bit less forgiving but I don't recall any definitve answers. As RM has used the Dusty leather in several of her designs I am hoping someone can share what steps they took to protect their treasure. TIA!!!

Gosh, I really wish I could hepl you out on this one but I dont want to give any incorrect advice. I have heard that the Dusty leather is super porous and soft, much more so than other RM leathers. Given this, I would think that the leather might be susceptible to darkening. Even so , however, I am sure than conditioning the leather would be fine for you but I would just be wary of any darkening.

Hopefully somehow here with a Dusty colored bag will jump in and offer some advice =)

Just don't use water. I haven't even mentioned this on tpf yet b/c I prefer the ostrich's approach to life however my lovely beau managed to tarnish the bottom of my ocean steady. He splashed coffee on it which was not a big deal but attempted to cover it up by wiping it off with a little water. Well I'd just rec'd it not a day before so obviously hadn't had a chance to treat the leather and the color wiped off. So now there's a white spot. He meant well though so I restrained myself from ripping him a new one (I only kicked the door really hard which served only to hurt my foot. haha). I need to take it to a cobbler but I'm again sticking my head in the sand b/c I really think ostriches have the right idea. Maybe next week. At least it's the bottom though. I'll just convince myself it adds character. Thanx babe!

Sparkle- I would recommend PMing TATERTOT. I believe i read that she has protected her dusty steady with LMB, and it dried up perfectly without any discoloration. Incase she doesn't read this post, you should contact her and confirm She's very helpful

Someone got me a bottle of the wilson's leather protector... is this ok to use on my marine MAB? I am just worried because the leather is metallic and not smooth.

Desi, Thanks for the sweet compliment

Sparkle, I used LMB leather pro-treatment and it turned out even more soft and supple if you can believe it. The leather darkened initially but when it dried went right back to normal and it feels like silk. I did not treat the silver spot details because it seemed so delicate that I was afraid the finish might come off. I think I may go with a spray of some sort to protect the flaps and edging. I hope this helps and feel free to shoot me a pm if you have any questions.

I just bought a MAB in marine- kind of a crackly metallic leather. Is appleguard protectant spray ok to use on it? I don't know how to take care of this kind of leather! All my other bags are creamy leather.
I'm wondering the same thing. My MAB in fuschia/gold crackle is on its way to me. Can I spray the gold crackle?

Also are the apple products or LMB products available for purchase in any B&M stores? THANKS!

Yes, the gold crackle ought to be fine and will probably benefit from a quick spray or two. What is B&M by the way?

thanks, yes, B&M = Brick and Mortar.

I wanna just like run to a store and pick this stuff up, I don't feel like ordering it online. I guess if apple has a website I can see if they have retailers.

does everyone treat their bags?

I wanted to share my experience cleaning a oily spot off my lavender mam for anyone who may need help later. The lavender mam leather is very soft, pebble-y and matte. It's a thick, smooshy leather.

I got a spot on the top of the bag near the zipper after I touched it. I had just put antibiotic ointment on my daughter's insect bite so it must have been the residue from it. (wash your hands after doing first aid before touching your bag. Duh!) Anyway, it left a darkened oily spot behind.

I got out my Apple conditioner and dabbed a bit on the leather on the spot and around it. It turned the area darker immediately. I then used a dry area of the cloth I was using to keep blotting (using gentle but steady pressure) the conditioner off of the leather. I could see it getting lighter each time I blotted it.

Once there was no trace of the conditioner left I rubbed the area in small circles. The oily spot is completely gone and there is no sign of the leather conditioner left behind!

I usually order from leatherstuff.com and they ship really quickly. Sometimes there are even codes they offer for 15% off (might want to take a look in deals and steals for it)

I dont know of any Brick and Mortar stores that sell it but its definitley possible.
