Does anyone have these? My 5 year old daughter it bugging me for them, but I'm wondering if they're just the standard mechanical animal or if there's more to them.

I would like to know also. My Mom told me about them, and suggested for my kids....would love to hear some feedback!

I just got mine in the mail. I'll play with it tomorrow at work (so the kids don't see!), and report back.

First of all, it's much smaller than I thought it'd be. About 5" long only. But it's REALLY cute! Even the ex-cop in our office thought it was cute and wanted one! We have carpeting in the office, but not plush at all, and it was able to run on it, but non-carpet would definitely be better. It makes all kind of little sounds (even moos and crows!), and it runs around by itself, turning if it bumps into anything. The best part - comes with its own AAA batteries! Definitely worth $8, probably not worth $25.

You better hurry! DH's cousin who is a toy distributor/salesman said these are the IT toys this season.... think Tickle Me Elmo, Wii type demand..... and apparently there just aren't enough to go around. I looked them up on Amazon to see what the fuss was about, and the prices are outrageous already!

I tested him on my carpet, and it's not shag or plush, but it's kind of thick and he ran on it, but looked sort of like a speedboat. The other problem was that my furniture it higher than the sensor on his nose, so he'd get stuck as he was trying to go under the furniture and not turn himself around. Still, very cute!

Please tell me this is a "girl-based" toy b/c I don't have the stamina for a toy hunt like this for my boys!

Hubby was lucky enough to grab "chunk" this morning for our daughter for Christmas... I am thrilled! I cannot believe that these are sold out everywhere...

Target gets them about once/week for $7.99.
I scored 2 different colors and my sis scored 2 more different colors at her Target in OK.

Boys and girls would love them.

I went to to Target today and no big surprise, they were all sold out. One of the associates told me that they put them out at 8 am and 1 person bought ALL of them. I mean, really, come on. Do you have nothing better to do with your life than resell toys??

that's weird, the Target's around here won't allow one person to buy more than 4, Wal-mart - 4 and TRU only 2/person.

There was just an article about them in the Financial Times (the driest, most boring newspaper ever, IMO. It makes the Wall Street Journal read like People magazine.) If they're enough of a phenomenon to hit the FT, as the must-have toy of the year, then they're definitely going to be selling out everywhere, since they don't exactly write about toys every day. It did mention that people are selling them on eBay for multiples of the price, though I don't remember which are the most desirable ones.

Yes, there is a sign up that says only 4 allowed per customer, but the associate I talked to said that he didn't see the sign and he watched the same customer buy all of them at once. Since my kids got me up early this morning, we may pop over to Target for their 8am shipment. No guarantee that there will be any, but it's less than 10 minutes away.
