Hello ladies! My husband and I are starting to put together our nursery. Just wondering for those who purchased rocker or gliding chairs if they were worth it? They can be fairly expensive so wanted to see if they are a new baby must-have before making the plunge. Thank you!

There is almost no way of telling what will be most comfortable or necessary for you until you have your baby; everyone is different and has different preferences. Some women keep the baby in a bassinet near the bed and nurse or bottle feed during the night in bed. Others are more comfortable haivng baby sleep in the crib and going to feed the baby in his room during the night.
I fell into the latter category, and I could not have lived without my huge rocking chair in baby's room! It was comfortable for me to sit in and the arms were in just the right position. It allowed me to be comfortable with my feet up and maintain motion to keep baby sleepy while feeding during the night. I used a regular rocking chair, but I do think that gliders are more comfortable. But rockers/gliders fit into the category of changing tables for me. Some people use them constantly and find them to be a must-have. Others rarely or never use them and find them to be a waste of space. My changing table was a waste of space, as baby and I were downstairs most of the day and I didn't carry him upstairs to change him each time. At night I changed him in the crib. But a rocker was quite useful for me! |

I know for me it will eventually help out. The baby will be in our room for a short time but then we will move him to the nursery and having a rocker in there will help with feeding and getting him back to sleep. The good news is that my MIL is looking to get my Dh a new rocker recliner for Christmas so I will be putting the old one in the nursery. It will be comfortable for me.

I received the following recliner as a gift from my Mom and Dad for the nursery. I'm pretty sure I will use it a lot, because I love it and find it very comfortable. I also like the curve of the arms - seems like it would be a good position for feeding. I plan on spending a lot of time in the nursery, even thinking about sleeping in there with the baby when we come home from the hospital, so feeding in the middle of the night would put this chair to good use. Aslo, I figured when I'm done with feeding the baby I can use the chair in my bedroom or livingroom.
I had a glider and ottomon with my son, but didn't care for the style or comfort of it. I already sit in the chair and just stare at the walls (waiting for my baby girl to arrive).

I was debating getting one or not (because it can be pricey). I ultimately decided not to get one until the baby comes. My niece loved it, my nephew didn't, so I didn't want to get something that the baby will dislike and we won't use (we have recliners in our living room).

DH and I use ours ALL the time! Even when the baby was in our room, we'd go in the nursery to rock him. I also have a glider and ottoman downstairs that we use in the living room. A glider and a boppy are two of my must-haves!
Also, if you do buy a glider, you might look for one that has a pull-out stationary footrest on the ottoman. It's great for sitting still when you just don't feel like rocking. |

I got a glider and DS loves the gliding action. However, I wish it were a bit cushier - maybe like a rocking recliner.

We have one in our DS's room and use it ALL the time! We will also have one in the new LO's room. I used it when BFing DS and will use it again with this LO...also, we use it for rocking DS, plus it is nice for me to sometimes just sit down in it when DS is playing in his room

I didn't get one b/c I thought it wasn't worth it but eventually the baby got so heavy, I just couldn't carry him around. But I didn't want a nursery glider as they seem impractical. So we got this...
http://www.ashleyfurniture.com/Showr...atPageNumber=2 I love it. It has gliding action (not Dutalier type of glide which is really long) but still decent and it's very plush. As it gets squished over time, you can just fill it, the seat and back have zippers. And it can be reused in other rooms of the house once you are done. |

I bought an expensive glider rocker for my daughter..she is now 13!BARELY used it as she slept 12 hrs a night...and was an easy baby.....
Funny thing is 13 YEARS later....I am dependant on that SAME rocker for my 19 month old grandson. He had AWFUL colic and i didnt sleep for OVER a year. That rocker saved my butt....nights when i could barely stand up i was so tired...that rocker was essential! SO i think it depends on the baby....Mine was worth the money and still looks brand new...so i have no regrets! |

My infant son loves to be rocked and nursed in our glider rocker...it's so soothing at times I find myself falling asleep while rocking him!

We didnt have any other existing pieces of furniture that would be easy or comfortable to use for nursing, so we had to get one.
We looked at a bunch of options and ended up with probably one of the more expensive ones we looked at. However with the cheaper ones, they just didnt match any of our stuff and we want to be able to use the chair over the long term so we had to find one that was just right. I cant see how I would function without one. It was about second on the priority list behind a crib for me. |
