Question Which CAR SEAT did you choose / like the most...?
So I've been doing research on the car seats and I feel like my head is going to explode. Would love to hear your opinions including past experiences. As of this moment I'm thinking about getting Maxi-Cosi... and actually I'm wondering if I even need the infant one or should I just start with the convertible one from the beginning since it's good from newborns till 40lbs... I do realize that the infant car seat is convenient in case the baby is asleep and we want to carry it back home without waking him/her up, or use it on the stroller, but is it really that crucial...?
Thank you! Looking forward to hearing from you!

btw - when I say "like" I don't mean pretty colors etc. but functionality, safety, and ease of use

LeMonde, congrats on your pregnancy! How exciting, I'm SO SO SO happy for you!

My only advice on car seats would be to call your local police dept, or whoever does inspections in your area, and ask what they like.

OK, scratch that, I do have advice. Yes, I would go ahead and get an infant one, they fit their tiny bodies and heads a lot better. Your little guy will be much more comfortable.

I agree that you should get an infant car seat. Obviously they are "made" for infants, so they are much safer for a newborn during the first few months. Actually, the hospital that I delivered in required us to have an infant car seat for discharge. We have the Chicco Key Fit 30 and love it, but there are a few good brands depending on the stroller you will be getting.

There is a video on you tube called "what you should know about car seats" you might wanna check it out. The Chicco Key Fit tops consumer reports rating. Hubby and I will check it out on our next trip to Target or Babies R Us.

congratulations LeMonde!! we were TTC buddies for a bit there.

We have the that same car seat. I'm only 23 weeks along so i can't say how well or how easy it is to use. I believe most, if not all, car seats sold in the US fits the safety standards. Choosing one, i guess depends on you and your "lifestyle".

We thought about a convertible too but the infant car seat just seemed safer for the newborn's body. lots of luck to you.

I agree with previous posters, the infant car seat is the way to go. Infants look a lot more comfortable in them than they would in the bigger ones. It's also a lot easier to take them out with the infant car seat as you just snap it onto a stroller and go, no waking up baby.

If you are worried about size, this car seat goes up to 32lbs http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=3237055
This is the one I am contemplating, we are going with one car seat and two bases. I have to go to the store to see how it fits with the snap-and-go and read some more reviews before I decide.

One hint on car seats, when you go grocery shopping, some infant car seats will snap onto the top of your grocery cart (make sure the child seat is extended and try to snap it on like a snap and go). This is the most secure way of keeping your baby onto the cart, I always get a little scared when I see how some parents place their car seats onto the top of the carts and they wobble.

Graco Snugride for infancy, then, hands down, Britax Marathon. Absolutely the best, IMO.

We have a 4 week old son and we chose the Chicco KeyFit 30 because of the consumer reports #1 rating. After looking at some other brands, it seems a lot more sturdy than the others.

We got the Chicco Keyfit also and just had the installation inspected at the local fire deptartment. He mentioned when we were there that a lot of parents that come in for the inspection have the same car seat.

The Graco Snugride got great reviews but the hook underneath that holds it to the base is made of plastic and not metal. The Maxi-Cosi has two metal bars which is great but it doesn't have a level indicator on the base.

Britax Boulevard since it has some of the best reviews (in the U.S.) for safety in Consumer Reports a few years ago.

Orbit. Hands down. LOVE the way it faces you when you put it or the baby it, and the pop-it-on-the-stroller factor has been great! It lets little man snooze

BTW - I don't think my last PM to you went thru. I am soooooooooo excited for you!

I would get a travel system - don't have advice on the brand, sorry. With travel system you can easily fit car seat into stroller - and go, hands free, with baby seat only you have to drag it in your hands, and these tiny babies are getting big pretty quickly LOL!! Good luck!
