Default Water safety & learning to swim

I feel like I have to post this, I am so satisfied & wholeheartedly recommend this program. It is called Infant Swim Resource http://www.infantswim.com/

My son just completed the course & in the process learned to swim. Look at my little fish!
http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/b...wimmingVideos/

My son is almost 3 & before this class could not swim at all, even after several months at a local swim school in a parent & me class.

My son learned the swim-float-swim sequence for children over 1 year of age. The sequence teaches the child how to surface to get air, swim toward a way out of the water, turn over to float to get a breath, and repeat the sequence until they find a way out or until help comes.
Young babies under 1 year learn to surface & float until help arrives.

At times the sessions were hard to watch as a mother, especially in the beginning when he would cry. But knowing that he was learning potentially life-saving skills made me power through the rough periods & give praise even when I felt like jumping in & pulling him out of the water!

He had to learn the skills of swimming & floating with clothes on, both summer & winter.

While nothing will ever replace constant supervision of your child when he/she is near the water, I feel like I have given my son a good chance of surviving if he ever fell into the water.

If your child is around a pool, lake, river or other body of water, I urge you to see if there is an ISR instructor in your area & check it out. The classes require a bit of a time commitment & are not cheap, but well worth it.

I am not affiliated with ISR in any way, just a very satisfied parent!

I have watched these classes be taught to babies around 6 months old, no joke. It is amazing and something that I will definitely do with my kids. Your son is doing great!! LOVE the videos!

Good to hear! Teaching your kids to swim is one of the best things you can do!

My mil is coming out next month. I'm hoping she'll have some time to start teaching DD how to swim(she was a lifeguard for a number of yeas and taught all 3 of her kids to swim).

I would love to do this! Sadly, I checked the site and there aren't any instructors for this particular method within 20 miles of my house. I'm not going further than that since around here, with traffic, that could take an hour. There are a couple of other infant swim schools nearby, so I'll try out one of those. I took my little guy into our big soaking tub with me this morning and he really liked it. He was really kicking, so cute!

I looked into this program but, unfortunately, the instructor won't travel to my house and her hours don't fit my current schedule. She only teaches at her house in the AM and I really need something later afternoon to be able to keep up with the daily requirements.
