Default Sleep help needed!
I'm at my wits end and I need help...

It started about a month ago ds got a runny nose, and then his first cold. He had it for a few days, but his runny nose lasted for a week and a half. It was terrible, but figured it was normal. He would wake up every few hours and we needed to suction his little nose all day and night long. Not to mention both myself and dh got sick from him too.

During this time we got the results of his bood test due to his excema on his cheeks flaring up. Poor guy is allergic to eggs, milk, and soy! We put him on nutrimigen, he didn't take it, so now he's on soy formula. Allgery dr. says it's ok because his soy level was very low. He's been drinking milk based formula 100% since he was 7 1/2 months! His diet has been changed and it's hard for both me (finding things to feed him) and him (gassy).

He still wasn't himself, very fussy and tired from not sleeping through the night, which he previously did prior to cold. One night dh and I noticed he was cutting his top teeth. Then we thought poor baby, that's why he's not sleeping through the night! We gave him tylenol and went to him every time he woke up crying. This went on and on and on...after about another week or two I just couldn't take it and called the dr. office. Went in and the dr. said one ear was red, but not puss filled, so a minor earache. Got his some omicef and he is doing better now.

Here comes my problem...he won't sleep through the night now. He wakes up at least 5 times a night. Some nights it was every.single.hour. I think he's now used to getting up, crying/scream, and waiting for one of us to come and rock him to sleep. Some nights he will wake up at any hour 12, 3, 5 and stay awake for 2-3 hours! I'm at my wits end. I have not gotten decent sleep for a whole month now. Dh is helping but I feel bad since he goes to work early and come home late. I tried CIO one night, yes sorry, but it didn't really work. He used to go to bed at 8-9 because dh wanted to bathe and put him to sleep, wake up around 6-7 am. He also had 2 naps one around 10-11 am for 2 hours, and one around 2-4 for an hour. He is now still doing the early afternoon nap, but hit or miss on the afternoon one like today, he would not. I've tried putting him to bed early, but he would wake at 11 or midnight for a few hours, and hen for good at 5 am.

I guess I need some advice from you girls, but also I wanted to know if this was normal like a phase? I'm a FTM with no help and just don't know what to do next.

Thank you guys so much for reading this!

I'm so sorry, I know when Kayla is not feeling well she wakes up during the night. Early on I put her on a very strict sleeping schedule. She goes to sleep at 7 and is up at 5 am every single day. When she's teething, has an ear infection or cold she does cry out during the night. Last week she slept on my chest when she had a fever. I think it's normal when they are not feeling well for things to be "off". Hang in there.

CIO does NOT take 1 night. It takes 2-4 nights for an average baby. Other sleep methods take 2 weeks to few months for success.

Lay off the CIO for now it is too late to try because he is already teething and he can't help it but wake up because teething pains go to the back of his head when lying horizontal. Instead buy one of those teething blankets babies love them as they provide comfort and are breathable.

As for CIO it is most effective for younger babies long before teething and rolling. Our DS took 3 consecutive nights to be trained at 2.5 mos old now he still sleeps like a log even when teething (his teeth are already cutting through), when he wakes up in the middle of the night he would sing or chat or fuss depending on his mood, and then he would go back to sleep on his own.

You need to read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby. DS went through the same thing but younger (4mo). It's exhausting...I so know how you feel! If you know he can sleep through the night he has just gotten into the habit of you all coming in and putting him back to sleep. I would only start CIO if you know thye are over their sickness, teething etc. My post is in this thread...it's a great thread to read through. GL and please PM me if youhave any questions or just need to vent!

My munchkin went through a similar pattern. A few nights of CIO and we were done. It was horrible for my hubby and I though. I kept looking on the monitor just to make sure nothing had happened to him.

BIG hugs!!

My baby sleeps and wakes at the same time as well. Just curious though, what time does she go down for a nap after her 5am wake up and for how long?

Hey guys...I know a lot of people read this and just wanted to update in case someone else comes across the same issue. I guess it was a phase/teething because the past 3/4 nights he's just woken up once in the middle of the night. Thanks for all the replies everyone!

LV - I haven't had the chance to get the book but as soon as I do I will, thanks!
