I had a very pleasant experience and trust me I was very scared about the whole thing because I wasn't planning on having any medication. My water broke in the morning and I went to the hospital 2 hours later at 3 cm. As the contractions became more intense, I used the birthing ball and the shower (very good for my back labor!). 8 hours after my water had broken, I was fully dilated and out came baby boy after 4 pushes.
Like Kybaglady - I also took Hypnobabies - classes definitely help with preparing yourself too. Good luck with everything! |

Both. I loved every minute of it. My third birth was just as awe inspiring as my first. And the pain wasn't that bad - I had epidurals! I was also blessed to have very fast and easy labors. My daughter - my youngest was the fastest. I went into the hospital at 1pm after my water broke and I had her in my arms at 4. |

Wow-so many great stories..I'm actually not as scared now, but instead getting really excited. I know once I go into labor, I will mostly be thinking about how happy I will be to meet my baby daughter. Thank you all so much for sharing with me!

My story!
I went in on a Thursday morning. They induced for TWO days and my son was SO NOT READY that he moved out of the birth canal!!! I went home for the weekend. Came back that Monday night for more induction! FINALLY...Tuesday night they broke my water. I was only dialated to 2 cm. That was at 9 PM. I hit hard labor at 1 AM, asked for the epi at 3 AM but thanks to the horrific snow storm outside the person that came to do the epi came AFTER baby came! I delivered my son at 4:33 AM! Now...lets talk about the time I was in there first. You can't be anywhere else, right?! In fact...I was sitting there watching these contractions come and go and hearing all these women screaming in the rooms surrounding me! My mom and I were laughing so hard! (I am just not a screamer when it comes to delivering babies...I think its kind of rediculous...just my opinion! )Alright...pain talk time! I refuse to have any drugs with this delivery. I FELT everything with my last son because I had no epi. I, too...tore both ways, BUT! I delivered an 8 lb, 12.-something (basically almost 9 lb!) baby with the help of the vaccum in 4 whole pushes! I felt him coming down the birth canal and when I delivered...wow, the coolest feeling ever! I felt my hips open for his shoulders and then the flutter (NO kidding!!!) of his feet on the way out! Then I opened one eye and asked the doc, "Did you catch him?!" "Yep, I caught him!" she said!!! I am an odd ball...I found it to be pretty dang cool! I finally cried due to pain when they stitched me back up...that was the only time. But I got up and walked to my room!!! |

ummm no. everyone feels that way too. i was scared of the pain and yes, it is very very painful. sorry to scare u, just being honest here. i asked for epidural so i didn't experience the pain until the next day when the drug wore off. if u decide on epidural to control the pain, just make sure u don't ask too late or they might not give it to u. with both of my sons, i asked for it at the first painful contraction so the delivery was not too long - 7 hrs both times. there was a lady down the hall from me when i had my second one who was screaming her head off for 1/2 hr cuz she was waiting for the doctor to come around to administer the epidural (he was very busy that day going around with the drug!!! LOL) she probably asked for it near the very end. lucky she wasn't too late for it!!! i bow down to all those women who was brave to deliver with no drugs!!!

I was scared too. I always said I would die during child birth! I have never been in the hospital, had stitches, a broken bone, or even an IV until I had Kam.
Let's be honest, the labor pains hurt. But once I had my epidural, the worst part was not being able to move my legs. I am super sensitive, and felt everything with the epi, but it really wasn't that bad. It hurt like hell after, but during the actual birth, you are so focused on what you are doing that it really isn't terrible. Again, I had an epidural, and would totally recommend one, but many women do it without! It's YOUR choice! :) |

Yeah my labour was fine, not as painful as I thought, only had gas & air. Only took 3 hours. It was a very relaxed experience, the midwives left me to it which I liked.
In a way its a kinda nice, it just seems so natural & your body just knows what to do. HTB & I really bonded through it too. I think its good to be as fit as you can, if you're not alreday pregnant I'd hit the gym, if you are just do what ever exercise is safe, walking, swimming. XXX |

I had pre-labour for more than 24 hours, until the actual thing, so it was a pretty hectic experience. The good thing was my water didn't break until last minute, so DH and i weren't really scared. But in total, the labour time was around 48 hours, it was my first baby. I had gas and pathidine at first, which didn't help at all at the late stages(which was at least 5 hours till maddy was born), so in the end i had the epidural. Everything after the epidural felt great, at least i didn't feel any pain.
It was the aftermath of the labour, as the placenta didn't come out, so i had to go into the theatre to get it taken out. It was a horrible experience, and i did nearly die in there(no kidding, i was in shock and had a lot of blood loss). i will def. get a c-section for my 2nd! Walk more if you can, it will really help with delivering. |

It's completely normal to be scared as I think most women are (since we have no idea what to expect)! I was very nervous about giving birth for months before my due date so I can completely relate to how you're feeling. By the time we went to the hospital, I found my contractions to be really painful, but then again, I was 6 cm dilated when I got there. They got me into a room right away and hooked me up with an IV (my arm was completely bruised from this as the nurse was having an impossible time finding my veins). I got an epidural shortly after and they told me it would take a few contraction cycles for it to work- but it worked right away. Immediately the pain was gone (yay!). The dr. came in to break my water then. I was nervous but couldn't feel a thing. I feel asleep for a few hours and the nurse woke me up when it was time to push. I pushed for about 20 minutes. For me, the aftermath hurt more than the actual birth. I was sore down there for a few days. It was hard just to get up and go to the bathroom and I wasn't prepared for the bleeding (sorry if too much info). But looking back, the experience wasn't any more painful than I had anticipated. A week after birth, I felt completely back to normal. No pain or discomfort at all and was back in my pre-pregnancy clothes. I don't think it would have been possible for me to have been more scared of labor, but looking back, it was honestly one of the best moments of my life. There's nothing like finally getting to meet and hold your baby. It's such an amazing moment. I wish I would have focused more on that aspect, rather than on the actual birthing processes. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions you want to ask and good luck with everything :)
