Default Rolling over in crib...STUCK
So DS is now rolling over from back to belly, but not belly to back. I removed the bumpers on his bed so in case he rolls and gets stuck, he won't be smothered. Last night I heard him crying so I went in and he rolled over so that his arm was between the slats and his face was pressed against them, alsmost fully between them!!! It scared me so bad that I pulled him into bed with us! Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?!?! TIA!

Oh my... just keep the bumpers tight and secure up against the slats and make sure there is no space between the mattress and the slats.

Sorry to hear that, what a scare... is there room to roll the crib into your bedroom so you can keep an eye on him? We did that for a while, b/c our ds was super active during the night...

So I should put the bumpers back on?! I thought I was supposed to remove them once they began to get mobile.

I would put the bumpers back on and make sure you tie them super tight. I always kept the bumpers on the crib with my kids because they were super active when they were sleeping and would constantly hit their arms and legs on the wood of the crib *ouch!*. The crib is in my room though, right next to my bed so I was always close by.

we have the crib in our room for now too.. the same thing happened to ds once and it was so scary :( i sleep better knowing he's in the same room. for what it's worth, he's also a really 'active' sleeper.

When my DS started rolling around I kept my bumpers on. I never took them off because he would be so active he probably would have hurt himself against the wood.

Aren't bumpers dangerous? Can't the baby suffocate with bumpers? I was advised not to purchase them at all..

A friend of mine told me to try placing the bumper on the outside of the crib; prevents arms from going through but he won't suffocate if he rolls over. I might try that tonight.

How about the breathable bumpers I see at BRU? They look like mesh so they can breath but can't get in the slats.

I put bumpers on when my LO started to move around. She has a talent for sticking out various limbs through the slats of the crib.

I've heard as well that bumpers can be dangerous for suffocation reasons (in fact, I believe that they are even banned in Canada for sale?). However, wonder if the breathable bumpers might be a good alternative?

Ugh last night was hellacious. It was DH's night to get DS for his middle of the night feed. Well DS kept waking every 2 hours trying to roll over. So I got up at 4 and took watch from 4 on. How long does it take for a baby to master rolling the opposite direction once they are rolling one way? Not sure how many more night we can handle this! TIA!

When they can pull themselves up is when you want to remove the crib bumpers, if you use them.

We are having this exact same problem. DS rolls to his belly and plants his face downward into the mattress. We've resorted to him sleeping in bed with me on a queen-sized mattress on the floor (really paranoid that he'll roll off the bed) of the nursery so I can flip him back when he rolls.

Am definitely curious to know when he can roll from belly to back!
