Hey everyone! Does anyone know of a good program that teaches math to infants and toddlers? My husband wants to buy the Brillkids program, but for $420 all it is is a bunch of PowerPoint programs and a set curriculum. For that kind of money I would prefer a system that comes with some manipulatives at least. Does anyone have any good recommendations, or any suggestions about what to look for? Any math teachers out there? TIA!

These are VERY inexpensive, but they are also not a curriculum. I ordered CDs from School Specialty, although they are also available from Barnes & Noble.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Mul.../9780769645735 I played the CDs (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts) in the car or when we were playing at home or when the kids had playtime. Granted, they only teach the facts and some basic ideas (doubles plus one, for example), but they teach them through song and those songs tend to stick in their heads. The music makes it fun to listen to, and the facts stick after a while. Like I said, this is not a concepts program, but a facts helper. My kids needed to memorize addtion, subtraction, multiplication and division facts, and these CDs helped them do that. There is also an online game called Timez Attack. It seems pretty basic, but kids think it is fun (not for toddlers or infants, though). Like I said, I don't know much about teaching mathematics to infants and toddlers as we did not try. We started with counting forward and backward, adding objects, then putting the number sentences with objects, then playing store (buying things for a few cents each for addition), and then we learned the basic facts. But we took the beginning part slow, as we never expected our infants to learn math! |

Thanks for the recommendation, the CDs sound great I will check them out. I was hoping someone would know of a system similar to Your Baby Can Read, but for math. Has anyone used the Brillkids program? If so, what do you think? Does anyone know of any alternative programs to try?
