Default Quick info about car seats...

I'm not sure if everyone knows about this, someone told me and I thought I'd pass on the info. Apparently you can go to the fire station and have them check to make sure your car seat is installed properly!!! How amazing is that?! The person that told me, they had installed theirs and thought it was right and went along and the firemen corrected it. Anyways, I just thought this was cool and I'll be taking advantage of it.

It depends on your area, but there will definitely be someone who will check it. Around here, it's not the fire department. A couple of the police depts. do, the children's hospital, and one of the AAA offices (even if you aren't a AAA member.)

One thing to note with any of these -- plan to do this EARLY, well before you are going to deliver and need it to bring the baby home from the hospital. Here, almost all of the places are booked several weeks out for checks, so call a month or so in advance (or even more -- I ended up being induced/c-sectioned three weeks early and had to scramble and beg to get someone to check mine the week before I was going in, when I thought I had plenty of time. If you can believe it, I never even got a return call from one or two of the police departments I'd called about it!!)

^ Wow!! Thanks for the info, I didn't know there was such a high demand for all these places lol I was picturing just dropping on by, but perhaps I should call first. Also it's good to know there are other places that do it too! thanks again!

This happened to me too! And it's the police department for a small and very low-crime town; I don't know what the heck else they could have been doing.

yes, call first as not all departments are trained
Sometimes the hospitals provide a drive up a few times/year. You pull into a line and they check while you all stay in the car, it's fantastic.

I was just looking through my car seat manual (Orbit) and came across the following. If you're having problems getting your seat checked, some possible resources to find help:

Call 1-866-SEAT-CHECK
Visit www.seatcheck.org
Visit www.nhtsa.dot.gov and select "Child Seat Inspections"
