Default Poll: When did you tell people you were pregnant?

Just wondering how soon did people let family/friends know that they were pregnant?

Hubby and I have told our family but am just waiting to tell friends. i have a doctors appointment tomorrow but i'm a bit paranoid to tell people in case things don't work out (first time in all this...) how soon is too soon?

We waited until after the first trimester...or rather, when we were able to hear the heartbeat through the doppler (externally...not through an ultrasound)

I had two miscarriages in the past...and after having to tell my mom I was pregnant...and then not pregnant the first time...it KILLED me. I know she was sad for me and everything...but I just couldn't put her through that again.

I believe I was around 15 weeks when we finally told our families this time around.

it's ALL a personal decision though...there is no right or wrong time...

I found out I was pregnant 10 weeks into it. We told our parents around 11 weeks (Mother's Day to be exact so that was a pleasant gift to my mum) but to everyone else, I think I was close to 4 months.

I told everyone other than my 2 best friends and my parents after the 1st trimester.....this was because with my first pregnancy we told everyone right away and a few days later I had a miscarrage.

I had this vague idea we should wait till the end of my first trimester, but I showed DH the HPT and the next thing I knew he was on the phone with half the western world, or that's what it seemed like. Fortunately my pregnancy went smoothly. I don't think I would do that again, though! We told family and good friends right away but waited a lot longer to tell more casual acquaintances, people I worked with, etc.

I'm 6 weeks along and only my parents my our best friend knows. My DH's family has no clue. I don't really want to tell the whole world yet although I'm really excited because I"m terrified that I might have a miscarriage. I'm extra careful of everything but still. I guess i'm just too worried.

I had a couple of miscarriages so I waited a really long time to tell. Basically, when I started showing, I had to start sharing. My stepdad came to visit us in San Diego when I was 20+ months along (and, with twins, on a small frame it was clear that I was pregnant), so I told him then. On average, people that didn't see me every day found out (at least from me) after I passed the point of viability (so around 24-26 weeks). Some of my relatives that live abroad didn't find out until I was about 32 weeks along. It sounds pretty extreme, but I just felt like --given my track record of pregnancy losses-- people in my family were bound to wonder if I was going to lose the twins too. Since carrying IVF multiples provided me with ample opportunities to stress out, I did not feel like adding an extra levels of dramatic tension by having to keep everyone updated every time I had an ultrasound.

I told everyone right away with both. Honeslty I couldn't keep secrets. It ended up being a snowball effect and with my son my mother basically told everyone withint 5 seconds of finding out so then we were like well if that half of the family knew then we would have to tell the other half etc. etc. I knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do but it felt right at the time.

i had a really shakey start, spotted everyday for the first three months so we didn't tell anyone until I was 5 months pregnant. My mom and DH's parents were the only ones we told at 3 months.

I have the same experience. I told my parents after I found out on Week 5 and I had a misscarriage on Week 6. Both DH and I plan NOT to tell anyone after first trimester next time.

I agree with a few members here to wait till you see the heartbeat before telling anyone. :)
