Angry No prices posted online..

Can I just say how much I dislike the fact that there is no pricing listed online for the daycare facilites, at least in my area. I am looking for a place to start sendng my son to preschool. He did so well in a learning "daycare" environment when I was working. I feel like I am holding him back and that he would benefit from that structured school environment again, IMO.

Here's the thing, I am going to have to get a job to pay for it! Of course I want to send my child to the best preschool, but I hate the fact that if I go see the preschools and love them, and then find out...oh I can't afford this!

Thanks for listening, does anyone else feel like this?

I totaly understand what you're going through! I know how expensive pre-school is in the United States and I just think it's absolutely ridiculous.

Can I ask why you are chosing to put him into a preschool rather than a learning day care environment?

Can you get the information just by calling? Some of the places around here don't post online, but if you just call for info you can find out. I think it's partly because they do a lot of different attendance options (2, 3, 4, 5 half days or full days), so listing out all the options would be tedious. But that way you can rule out the overly costly ones with a quick call rather than going there and really liking it, only to find out it isn't an option.

Yeah I called a couple and they all want us to come see the place first to make sure that we like it.

Preschool is pretty much as expensive as daycare, that is why I was going to do preschool

Oh, that's super-annoying. I can't believe they won't give you the pricing info without coming in. Sounds like a timeshare, not a preschool!

Sometimes it's too complicated to post, especially if the places have sliding fee scales.

they won't give their rates w/out you coming in? that's weird, i teach preschool and we give any info you are looking for!
i'm sure it's a pain to run around checking out schools, but it will be worth it to find the right one!

of course daycares and preschools don't post prices online, they want you to come in and tour the school. i'm a program specialist at a well known daycare and we encourage you to come in, check it out, and compare to other facilities in the area. a good daycare will allow flexibility in scheduling (i.e., 3 half days, 2 full days, etc.) and some directors will work with you and your budget to find you something affordable.

there's also the option of subsidized daycare. depending on your total home income, you could look into the possibility of getting help from the state. Connecticut offers Care 4 Kids, check with your state for something similar. as a parent, you are in control of where this money goes, so you don't have to send your child to a state-run daycare. i hope this doesn't offend, merely a suggestion.

i could also give you going rates in CT as a ballpark, hehe. good luck :)

No offense taken. Unfortunately the DH makes too much for state aid. But I got some "not cheap" recommendations. I am more than happy to pay for the school, as long as I am not going to go into debt for it. That was the whole reason that we took him out of daycare to begin with!

I would love some of the going rates. They can't be too much of difference, I would hope!

jen, how old is your child and what kind of schedule are you looking for?

cutter, the current full time (more than 4 hours a day), 5 day a week rate for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos is $330 a week. that's right. 5 half days (4 hours or less) is around $294 a week, if i'm not mistaken. for older children, up to 12 years old, the full time, 5 day rate is $263 a week. we're slightly more expensive b/c of our extensive educational program, hours (6:30 am to 6 pm), and we provide meals and snacks. we only close for the major government holidays and are almost always open during snow days. the majority of our teachers have early childhood degrees, are state certified teachers (like me), or are college students going into education. but we're not that much more expensive...the difference is only about $30-40 a week.

I checked on the one in my neighborhood that I'm hoping to get my son into (reminds me, I need to fill out the application to get him on the waiting list.) They do have the rates online. Here they are in case they're any help. I live in an expensive area, so they're probably at the high end. These are monthly.

5 Full Days (8-6PM) $1540
5 Part Days $1293 AMs $1190 PMs
3 Full Days $1066
3 Part Days $927 AMs $705 PMs
2 Full Days $783
2 Part Days $711 AMs $490 PMs

i found montessori schools to be reasonable, we liked their method. the waiting lists were killer...you had to have a personal connection or recommendation to the school.
