I just found out I am pregnant (ahhh!) and along with nerves and nausea I have no desire to eat. Yesterday I was only able to eat a decent amount in the evening. If I try and eat I gag at the sight and smell of food. I have been drinking lots of water and I am taking my prenatals. I read about ginger powder, but exactly how do I take it? Any other good cures out there? TIA girls!

I tried EVERYTHING. Nothing worked for me. I was dry heaving 15-20 times a day. It was horrible. I finally got on Zofran. That worked. It took away my nausea and dry heaving. I have heard for some people it doesn't take away the nausea though.

I had severe hyperemsis gravidarum, was hospitalized throughout my pregnancies. I often felt that hard candies and lemon drops helped a lot- just having something in my mouth.
Sometimes nothing will help and you may just have to wait until your hormone levels plateu around week 13 or 14. You are in my thoughts- I know how hard it is. believe me! |

Nothing has really helped me. it really sucks. I did get Zofran and that has worked a bit. Stops the puking but not always the nausea. My docs. nurse told me to get lots of electrolights. So, I got pediatric electrolight freezer pops and those seem to help alot.

You have to try to eat something - anything. The longer your stomach stays empty, the worse it will get and the more turned off by food you will get. And ginger root powder shouldn't be tried on an empty stomach... |

Accept the fact that you need to be like a cow & be continuosly "grazing" all day long. I figured out that longer I go without snacking or having a small meal, the worse I feel.
Salty potato chips have worked for me, along with saltines... dry cookies.... when i eat my meals, I make sure to have protein. And my small meals are usually every 2-3 hours. I usually eat slowly and find i can't eat more than what would fit on one hand. If i get too full, i get nauseated or have heartburn. In the morning when I don't feel like eating, i try to have a protein shake just to get something in before the nausea sets in. Sometimes I'll substitute a snack food with a protein drink. I can no longer tell when I'm hungry because when I'm hungry, I get nauseated. I don't know I'm hungry until the food is in my mouth. Like japster, hard candies to suck on helped... for me the sour ones are best. Chewy spree often does the trick too. I'm in my 10th week & I'm hoping it's over soon. Good luck! |

Hard candy and lipton's cup of noodle soup helped me a lot when I was really nauseous. I think the saltiness in the soup would ease my stomach a bit. I also agree that you have to keep grazing on food. Mornings have been the worse for me because I sleep for 8 hours and wake up on an empty stomach. So now I snack on something before I got to bed and I make sure to eat breakfast pretty much as soon as I wake up. I hope that the nausea ends for you soon. I was still feeling it at 20 weeks.

Wearing sea-bands around my wrists really helped me with the nausea. Also ginger chews, and hard lemon candy seemed to help me feel better. Good luck!

Have just started taking "Morning Bliss" ginger capsules but haven't helped so far...I'm 18 weeks but STILL having severe nausea most days which starts about 11am and gets progressively worse as the day goes on. Ready salted crisps give me about 30 minutes relief but that's about it...
Ah, the joys of being pregnant....
