Default mustela or bourdeaux's

Anyone tried these products. Are they any good?

Is there something better on the market? Husband and I just bought a condo and we are trying to buy the necessities in advance so we don't get overwhelmed at the last minute.

the BEST diaper cream I ever tried is in a little white tub w/ blue lettering called "Dr. Smith's" it can be hard to find but it's the best I ever tried.
http://www.doctorsmith.com/diaper.htm

I have 3 kids and it would clear up a bad case of diaper rash over night, literally.
You apply a thin layer and then a thick layer of regular Vaseline over it to keep it on and voila!

I love Mustela products otherwise but they're VERY fragrant. . . and I don't think babies appreciate the strong fragrance in those pristine brand new lungs

The best thing to do is PREVENT rashes and it's very cheap and easy to. Slather the Vaseline on at every or every other diaper change.

Vaseline also keep things from "sticking" down there. . . I can tell you more if you want to know, but boys and girls each have their own issues at first and Vaseline helps keep skin from sticking.

Yes vaseline is a good to prevent problems in the first place. It does making wiping away those first sticky baby poop, & poop in general super easy.

I have never used any of the creams you posted. I like Desitin Regular (Not the creamy or clear) for actual rashes.

I think this is a very good article from Paula Begoun about baby skincare.

I'll load up on lots of Vaseline. Heheh, thanks

What about diapers? Are the 7th generation ones good? I think majority of people say Huggies are the best??

What about baby powder? Don't most people put baby powder after every diaper change? Should I just skip this step and put vaseline?

a different brand worked for each of my children. . . it's true unfortunately.
Pampers worked best on my DD, Pampers Baby Dry worked best on one of my twins and Huggies Supreme worked better on the other!
If you have a Safeway branded store look for a great item called "diaper doublers" these are sort of like maxi pads for babies, they were LIFE SAVERS for me and preventing leaks @ night.

baby powder is a no no. Babies inhale it into their lungs and it can be fatal.
If you need something, use cornstarch. But most people don't bother w/ baby powder anymore.
Another must have is Mylicon {or other brand} gas drops. They're not a drug, you can't over do them.

I wound up just buying big boxes of Costco Kirkland brand diapers. I believe they are made by Huggies. My daughter did fine with Huggies Supremes & Pampers Swaddlers also.

Baby powerder containing talc is a no no!!

There's been interesting evidence leading to the thought that talc powder may play a role in ovarian cancer. It's not proven yet, but it's a thought

I heard you're not supposed to use Vaseline because it blocks out the air, which is what you don't want. I use Aveeno baby diaper rash cream, and it works great.

It really depends. Huggies work great if sensitive skin doesn't run in your family. When my DD was born the hospital used pampers but unfortunately my DD was allergic to them. Seventh Generation are the only diapers she wasn't allergic to. If you are interested in trying them they have a $2.00 off coupon you could print out on their website.

The best cream we've found is the Aveeno. It works great and doesn't contain any phthalates(linked to cancer).

My 19 mos old DS uses mustela (body wash, shampoo, etc). It smells really nice. It worked well when he had eczema in the early months. It's hard to say which brand you will actually be using. Even if it is the best and/or most recommended, your new baby may not respond well with the products you've chosen.

I like A+D for preventing diaper rashes. Make sure everything is patted dry after wiping, and use a little bit of A+D with every diaper change. It's probably the same principle as Vaseline. We had success doing that with my DD, and very, very rarely had a real diaper rash. A big jar of A+D has lasted us - well, we still have the jar, and she's almost 3 1/2!
