Default Moms - are you absent minded?

I used to be a very organized person with a memory like a steel trap (my friends' words). Ever since I got pregnant and had my baby I've found myself very absent minded/forgetful. My short term memory is close to non-existing. When the timer goes off reminding me I need to turn off the stove, but if for some reason I can't get to it right away I will totally and completely forget about it until I smell something burning!! That's just one example. I think the sleep deprivation coupled with a focus that's completely on someone else (my baby) are the culprit - do you agree? Do you have a 'system' to help with the situation? Does it get better (or worst) over time? What is your funniest or most embarrassing story of being absent minded? A friend of mine said she'd find cereal boxes in her refrigerator.

Oh yes! My DH used to tell me that I had a memory like an elephant. Now he will tell me what he wants from the store, and I will get everything but what I went for. It really sucks cause I hate feeling like an air head!

Ah yes, I had this problem with my son and now this time around, the same thing. I actually have been carrying around a little digital voice recorder that I can record reminders to myself on. I then play them back every day or two when I have time to sit down and go through them. The funny thing is that EVERY time i record a reminder, I think to myself "I don't need to remind myself of this. I will totally remember." Then sure enough when I go to play back the messages, I have completely forgotten and needed the reminder. Also, at the beginning of each week, I make a TO DO list for each day of the week and I list it in my Mom Agenda and then check it every day and modify it as needed throughout the week. Oh and a grocery list is a MUST anymore.....

I feel your pain!

I used to have the most excellent memory before having my daughter.

Now my short term memory is shot, sometimes I answer the phone at work the person gives me the name & by the time they've said their company i've forgotten their name!!! On the other hand my longterm memory is still sharpe.
I did think about thrying the brain training electronic games but couldnt be bothered & felt like a ninny. So now i'm trying iron tablet (which I have on percription anyway) & lots of oily fish - yummy!

OMGosh yes. Pregnancy give you weird memory issues. Ask my hubby about when I got lost looking for our table after going to the restroom in Cattlemens. I kid you not! My only consolation was that the hostess acted like folks got lost in their restaurant a lot.

Me too, I can put my keys in my bag one second, and the next second, I can't even remember where I place it...
I hate this feeling... any idea if our memory will return after some time?

For me, it started when I was pregnant and after delivery for about 1 year. Then my memory got better but never to the point I was originally. Then when you have your next baby, the cycle starts again. I been through it 3 times now, my 3rd is 5 months old, so still do not remember where I parked the car.

Wow, I can't tell you how absent minded I am. My DH makes fun of me but the lack of memory in addition to the exhaustion makes me Kooky sometimes :P

Yesterday, I left my credit card @ Starbuck's...this morning, when I was buying McDonald's for my son, I drove off without my drink!
