Default Measuring Small?
Anyone else measuring small? I have to go in for an U/S at 32 weeks bc my doc says I'm measuring 29 weeks. I'm not too worried bc he didn't seem to be. I only weighed 4lbs 15oz full term..so it makes sense that my LO will be small..
But I can't help but be a little concerned..

I assume that your doctor is talking about your fundal height? I know that some doctors consider fundal height to be an inaccurate indicator of fetal growth, especially towards the end of the pregnancy. Plus, it's also totally likely that your l/o is just on the low end of normal weight. Don't worry just yet. Good luck at your u/s.

I was measuring small and then three weeks later measuring large. Mine fluctuating about 2-3 weeks, like you are. I had a healthy baby at 35 weeks so I am sure you will be fine.

Good luck!!

Well, ultrasounds can be wrong too....at the end of my pregnancy, Lily measured like 9 lbs 7 oz and since I still had like 3 weeks, well, consider me nervous!! LOL Turns out when I had her she measured 6 lbs 14 oz!!!! Moral of the story, ultrasounds can be wrong both ways--saying the baby is too small when its big, or saying its big when its smaller....Dont get too worried!

Totally true! They told me two weeks from my due date that my son was 8lbs, 6 oz. He weighed 7lbs, 14 oz. when he was born, three weeks later.

ITA with the pp's...u/s can be wrong as fundal height can be, too! They said our DS was going to be 10 lbs and he was 8 lbs. Now, with this PG, they are saying even bigger?! I don't think so....but we'll see. I wouldn't worry if I were you, just continue to enjoy your PG!

I was also measuring small towards the end of my pregnancy with my second daughter. I had an ultrasound and found the baby was actually measuring larger than my weeks! The doctor just told me that I hide the size of the baby really well! She was born weighing 7lb 10oz so if your doctor wasn't worried I wouldn't be worried either!!!

I always measured small from day one with both my DS and DD. 2 to 3 weeks behind and both DS and DD was 7lbs 2oz and 20 inches long. I wouldn't worry at all

Are you long waisted? You look pretty tall, judging by your avatar.

After my last ultrasound (I am 30 weeks) I was 'measuring big' which worried me a bit; At my next midwife appointment I asked about it, and she told me that long waisted women often measure 'small', and short waisted women 'big'. It's a real estate availability issue. :) I am 5'2" and with a short torso. So of course the baby has nowhere to go but straight out.

^ Have to agree. I'm 5'0" and starting from about week 28, starting measuring 2 weeks big, then 3 then 4 at the end!! I was told to expect a 9 or 10 pound baby!! LO ended up being less than 7 pounds!!

No, I'm not long waisted..only 5'4. I went in for the U/S and she's only measuring a week behind, but I was only 4 lb 15 oz when born and at 32 weeks shes' already at 3 1/2! Now they are making me go in twice a week for 3 weeks-just crazy! And she's proportional and everything is completely normal and healthy. I really can't stand these people and how they scare you through the whole thing. It causes nothing but stress..

I measured small as well a few weeks ago and had to go for another scan yesterday. Everything turned out to be normal, I agree about the added stress though being soooo unwarranted! I'm 5'4 too and 31 weeks along.

This is why ultrasounds to date a pregnancy need to be done early. In the early weeks of a pregnancy, it is all developmental and most babies are at the same stages at the same number of weeks. But as pregnancy progresses, babies vary as much in size in utero as they do after they are born! Some babies are bigger and some are smaller, just like with adults. As long as the u/s indicates your baby is healthy and developmentally on track (good heartbeat, all the parts in the right places, etc.), I wouldn't worry too much about size unless it becomes drastic.

Once I got past the first few weeks of pregnancy, I always measured big. It would begin as measuring two weeks ahead, then 4, then 6, and then they started doing u/s more often because they couldn't figure out why I was measuring so big. The u/s tech said she stopped giving estimates once she figured the baby was over 10 lb, so she refused to say how big she thought the baby could be. I was not gestationally diabetic, but my last baby was 11-1/2 lb and two weeks early. But she was healthy and that was all that mattered, and it is exactly the same for a baby who weighs 5 lb at birth - big or small doesn't matter as long as the baby is thriving.
