We paid $12 an hour when we have date nights or $75 a day if the school happen to close and I cannot be off. I have twins, and the price above are for 2.

I worked as a sitter for a long time and was paid anywhere between $10-15 an hour - depending on the family and the number of children. The familys I worked for always left cash for me to order myself dinner. I thought that was nice

Nights I was paid more.

I paid my sitter $100 a week. Most private sitters in my area go from anywhere between $80-$145. & the more expensive does not necessarily mean better. The norm for a daycare/preschool setting around here was $120-$150 a week but I never wanted to put DS or the new one coming in that type of setting. I rathered a private sitter who watched only 5 to 6 kids. I've never heard of anyone charging by the hour.

If the sitter is an adult, about $15 per hour would be appropriate.

It depends where you live. I know that here there's no way to get an adult babysitter for $10-$15 an hour, that's what the teenagers charge. For an adult, $20-$25. I babysat when I was a college student and until age 27 and got $22 an hour for 2 kids, but that was 10 yrs ago.

^^ I agree. I forgot to mention that where you live determine the hourly rate too. I used to live in Sydney Australia and the babysitter there charged $25 an hour. So I was pleasantly surprised when they charged much lower where I live now. In theory I have 2 sitters, one is an older lady who charged me $60 a day when the younger sitter (24 y.o with degrees in childhood education and about to complete her master) couldn't do it and this younger sitter charged me $75 a day or $12 per hour on date nights.

ok so most of you say $15.00 is that for 2 boys or per boy ? i have no problem paying i do not want to be known as the cheap mom but i also do not want to be taken for a ride. i do not make a lot of money but willing to pay . i watch that show on abc family about the nannies one makes 20 bucks one makes 40 bucks an hour but i think thats for all the kids . i live in north carolina and i did ask this one lady how much she paid the sitter she said 7 bucks an hour and she has 3 kids i think thats low .

You should ask her how much she charges. It sounds like she babysits other kids so she would have some expectation of how much she gets paid per hour. Some are experienced but only feel comfortable charging what I consider cheap ($10-15/hr or less) while others demand $20+ with no experience. So like some PPs said, expensive doesn't always mean better.

Going rate here for teenagers is about $15-$18/hr. Adults/services $25.

Do you have any friends with kids, maybe you could a swap...you watch their kids for an evening and vice-versa.

$15/hr for 1 or 2 children is standard where I live and that's for someone with lots of experience.
