Thanks, ladies!
We are going to keep it up. She isn't being swaddled during the day and it really seems to be working well. She is already rolling from belly to back and back to belly so I don't see it doing any harm!

we swaddled until 3.5 months old and that's when he just refused to stay in it any longer. i didn't see a difference in his sleeping with our without a swaddle by then, so i ditched it because it was beginning to be a pain to reswaddle him at night.

This is very interesting, because where I am, nobody (professional or otherwise) suggested swaddling. I can understand why it might be suggested but it was never, ever the thing where I am. I never heard of anyone doing it here - it was cot blankets from the get go tucked in at the sides! Mind you, DS is nearly 12 now so I'm probably well out of touch....

eta: DS was born in southern England.

I still swaddle my 16 month old. He stood up on his own at 7 months and walked at 9 months. He is now running and climbing on top of everything imaginable and I'm constantly chasing him. Granted, he's been able to get himself out of the swaddle for quite awhile, for him, it's associated with bedtime and we swaddle, and rock/nurse him until he's sleepy and put him in his bed. He's been sleeping through the night since 10 months.

And on the other hand, my DD HATED being swaddled after about 2 weeks, so we gave up. She didn't sleep through the night until she was 26 months.

My LO is 4 months old and we still swaddle him at night. He does not like to be tightly swaddled though, so we use the Woombie, which allows him to move his arms and legs around, but it doesn't allow the jerky movements that would wake him up. I am also wondering when I should stop swaddling, but I don't want to mess with it since he sleeps 12 hours a night...so I guess we'll just go until he outgrows the Woombie or protests when we put him in it. My LO is also only swaddled at night, he much prefers his naps in my arms during the day

DD did not like to be swaddled from almost day one. She needed her arms out to move around so we have used the sleep sacks and they worked great. She was always a mover and still is at night. She makes her way around her bed in her sleep at least 10 times LOL

Our DS was colicky - and he was swaddled until 9 months at least.

DD was only for a few months.

Our dd is 3 months old and sleeps beween 8-10 hrs. a night in her "kiddopotamus swaddle me" (we started swaddling around 4 weeks and she slept 6 hours, then 7, now 8-10...that thing is magic)...but just this past week she is ending up at the very top of her crib, sideways. I took off her bumper because I was scared she would get up against it and not be able to get away. I'm thinking of not swaddling because she is moving around so much, but, like the others say - if it is working why change it. Any suggestions from you swaddlers? Thanks!
