So my normal babysitter for Saturday mornings when I'm in school had a high school reunion thing to go to. So another friend of mine watched DD. Well come to find out my friends son wasnt' feeling well so he slept all morning UPSTAIRS in his room.
DD stayed downstairs of course and played with my goddaughter all morning. Well now I find out that my friends son has H1N1. DD is on antibiotics but of course that does nothing for a viral flu. I'm terrified and scared to death she is going to catch it. What do you think? |

OH NO!! as long as there was no sharing of bodily fluids [cough, snot, eye guu etc.] i would hope that all would be OK. if you haven't already, disinfect the house...light switches, door knobs...anything that he may have touched or that his mom may have touched after being with him.
and if you want to be on the really safe side call her doc and see what they say...i hope she doesn't catch it! it's so scary for the lil ones!! GL and keep us posted. |

She was at their house, the mom said that she had already disinfected everything that morning bc she was cleaning the house. And they never came in contact with each other. He's older so she wouldn't have like played with his toys or anything.
She's barely over this other stuff, UGH! I'm definitely calling the doc in the morning. and she's on the list for the vaccine in mid October when they get it in. |

Relax, don't panic. My son had this when Lily was not even 2 months old yet!! He got it from school. Naturally I freaked out, knowing I was in contact with my son days before the symptoms (at the most contagious time) so I figured I was a shoo-in for the sickness too, in turn giving it to Lily unknowingly. Well, would you believe that the rest of us (Lily, me and my DH) never got sick!! My sons pediatrician gave us some scripts for tamiflu (i took it twice, gave it to lily only a few times and DH took it for a few days) so I don't know if that helped us not get sick. What I'm trying to say is that Lily was around him all the time (and me too obviously, even after I knew cuz I had to take care of him in close contact) and didn't get sick. We all washed our hands constantly, used clorox wipes on all hard touchable surfaces like lightswitches, tables, phones, remotes, etc....and my son is VERY good about coughing into his arm as well which probably helped. Try to calm down a bit though I know its hard....your poor baby has been so sick so often! IF she does get sick, know that when my son had it, it wasn't as bad as the newpapers and tv made it seem...yes, he had a temp (at the highest it was 102.0), cough, headache and was tired. After first onset of symptoms until feeling great probably spanned 5 days so it wasn't a horrible sickness that lasted forever, kwim? If I hadn't gotten him tested for H1N1, I wouldn't have thought it was it since the symptoms weren't as bad as all the papers would have you believe. I had asked my own doctor about H1N1 when I went in a while ago (before my son got it) and he said the media is blowing it WWWAAAAYYY out of proportion. The analogy he used was "its not like yelling FIRE in a crowded movie theatre...the media is like yelling FIRE in Giants stadium." LOL If you need to PM me, please feel free to since I've been through this: and with a 2 month old at the time who DIDNT GET SICK when her brother did! Relax sweetie....

Was the kid actually tested for H1N1? My ped told me that any child that is brought in with any flu symptoms will automatically be diagnosed with H1N1. He said it is nothing to worry about and to not listen to all the media hype.

He was tested and it was positive. The ped is fantastic, he's the one I wanted to take my DD to, but that's a long story.
She didn't get sick thank God! But I was so terrified with her already having a respiratory illness last week. Thankfully she seems all better now. |

YAY!! im glad she didn't catch it! such a relief for you im sure.
had to take mack in to the doc office yesterday she has strep and they checked her for swine flu too...the doc just kept saying how it's really not a big deal for the bigger kids, but for the babies it's scary stuff. im so glad that it wasn't that. then my 7 yr old came home saying that he has a class mate that has swine flu...we haven't heard anything from the school about it and it's still open so im guessing it's just all the kids talking...at least i hope that is the case! |
