Default Hiccup vs. Kick
How can you tell the difference? What does a hiccup feel like? Thanks!!

Hiccups are rhythmic and the whole belly bouces as the whole baby bounces. I was about 22-23 weeks both times when I felt them regularly. My MIL didn't believe I could feel them that early, but yep. It's kind of cute and happens more often after they been going gang busters kicking for awhile - their immature diaphragms start to spasm with all that exercise.

Okay, so if its rhythmic then its a hiccup? I just thought that she was doing kung fu in my tummy!! I was on another board yesterday and there was a thread on hiccups, and I had NO IDEA that they did that!

Once the baby is bigger you will definately know the difference, but hiccups do generally have more of a rythm to them :) Usually the whole belly jumps.

hiccups will last a while in the same spot and are rhythmic...the kicks may or may not vary in location. DS would get hiccups after eveytime i ate...cute at first but then they kept me up at night...arggghh.

my baby gets the hiccups several times a day, and I could feel it by week 19-20 (i remember being able to see it on the ultrasound at week 12). i can definitely tell the difference, as rather than one isolated kick or punch, i feel like his entire body moves suddenly, and plus the movement is very rhythmic (every couple seconds). i used to feel soo bad for him when he got the hiccups (i personally hate getting hiccups myself) but at least for him they don't last very long (less than 30 seconds usually). also i figure it's just his way of practicing breathing...

I don't think I started feeling hiccups til about 30 weeks. They were frequent, very rhythmic, and often lasted 5 minutes or more. It was more of a whole belly bouncing feeling whereas a kick was a direct jab, KWIM? So cute! Like Sweetneet said, I hate getting them too - they hurt and sometimes I hiccup so hard that my back and neck joints pop. But even now, DS gets hiccups a lot, and they don't seem to bother him.

My little girl use to hiccup all the time. I remember when I first hear they hiccuped in the womb I thought that was so funny Then it kind of got to be sort of routine.

I can't wait until I can feel hiccups. I don't "think" I have felt them yet.

When I feel the hiccups, should I do anything? Like, drink water... Should I avoid certain foods to prevent frequent hiccups? I just feel bad for the baby...

My son was the hiccup king in utero and he hasn't had the hiccups once since being born. Crazy, right?

Oh, and I loved feeling the hiccups - they always made me laugh! Enjoy them!!!
