Default Having a baby has buggered my body. Has this happened to you?

When I first had my daughter I felt so lucky as although I'd had a really really sicky pregnancy, I had no stretch marks walked out of hospital in my uk size 8 jeans & had had the easiest labour (like shelling peas).
I felt really smug, fast fwd a 18 months on of feeling like death, passing out all the time, feeling sick, eating loads & loads of food but still waisting away - my Dr told me I had a massive infection which had taken over my immune system - he thinks I caught the infection from giving birth. After a course of horse tablet i return to my dr's very tearful as I still feel so rough - he tells me after further investigation my iron level is none existant - normal iron levels are 60 up mine is 7!!! Therefore my bowels have pretty much stopped working & I've developed an allergy to wheat!

Tallk about tough luck.....

Has anyone else had really random heath problems steming from child birth?

So sorry to hear about your health problems, perhaps you should consult a 2nd doctor for another opinion

I was misdiagnosed with an allergy to wheat before. Make sure to get a second opinion on this before changing your entire diet. Blood tests don't really prove this condition, an endoscopy is the only real diagnosis from what I understand and have read.
As far as your iron levels, maybe the doc should hospitalize you with an IV to replensish your iron, seems like the quickest way.
My cousin had a baby 6 months ago and she has gotten extremely skinny and unhealthy looking. She went from Jamie Lynn Spears pre-pregnancy body to Amy Winehouse's body now. She has been diagnosed with iron problems as well and they have talked about hospitalizing and IV-ing her. Good luck.

im sorry that you are going through this. but i also suggest a 2nd opinion. better safe than sorry. and i didn't experience anything like that. it's odd what having a baby can do to your body....

I hope this does not scare you but I wanted to share since you are concerned...Actually my friend ended up getting very sick from being pregnant with her first child. She has some disorder where her immune system was attacking itself and it was so severe she had to have her spleen removed. I forget what the name of the disease was but the doctors said she probably carried the gene her whole life but pregnancy was what made it act out inside her body.
Good luck with your condition.. maybe a seond opinion might be best.

Thanks for all of your concern xxx

I have a fabulous dr - I think other dr's would not as been so proactive as him. I'm lucky in the fact he's actually private but does one day a week nhs & always makes the effort to see me.

Sorry to hear this, could your hormones be out of whack like hypothyroidism ? My body is still all screwed up from pregancy especially the 2nd which was a girl. Pregnancy does this unfortunately. Maybe you should see an endocrinologist.

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time! I developed a metal allergy and sagging skin after my daughter, but my SIL developed a terrible heart problem and a blood clot issue after the recent birth of her 2nd child. She is to have NO more children because the Drs said her body and heart can't take it.

Pregnancy is a wondrous thing, but it really tears up our bodies!

That's no good! I hope you have a speedy recovery.
I actually ended up developing a uterine infection as a result of the birth about 5 weeks after i had my son. I had a tear on my uterine wall and developed really high temperatures, i felt like i was always freezing (my husband would be walking around the house in shorts and t-shirt and i would be dressed in 3 layers of clothing and still be cold). I got these really nasty dizzy and nausea spells that almost made me pass out everytime i got them, i got cramps in my tummy that were so painful it made me feel like i was going to pass out and eventually got put in a 10 day course of 3 different antibiotics. I couldn't breastfeed, my apetite was next to none because of those antibiotics and because of that my milk supply dwindled significantly. Eventually by the time i was able to breastfeed again, my son refused my boobs and eventually my boobs dried up. That was the most disappointing thing for me :( i was planning on breastfeeding my son until he was at least 12 months old. I still get to go to the doctors to have an ultrasound of my tummy once a month until it's been 6 months since i've had my son to make sure that all is OK with the scar that i have on my uterine wall. Other than that, i'm also on iron supplements due to iron deficiency in my body and am still on omega3 supplements as for some reason, i still seems to be suffering from the preggy brain forgetfullness syndrome :S

Well, I thought I was okay- apart from the bagging and sagging that comes from having twins. But for the first couple of years after my twins were born I constantly caught one cold after another, all winter long (pre-pregnancy I would only catch a cold every few years). So i think being pregnant really took a toll on my immune system.

However, the winter just passed was winter number 3, and I think I only caught one cold, so perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel!
