I am staying home with DD and don't have any friends who are staying home. I am thinking about joining a mom's group but am a little hesitant and I'm not sure why.
I am really paranoid about DD being around other kids d/t h1n1 and seasonal flu. For those of you involved in these activities have your kids stayed healthy? Do you enjoy the time with other moms? |

I've had great success with it. We move alot and it is so hard to make new friends and that is good way to make friends. I was in a small group in TX and I still keep in touch with my group there via facebook. I have gone to a local one here but haven't clicked with some of the people. I was in a small group there in TX so it was more controlled on how many people came around my child. I gotta say I met some lifelong friends so it was worth it to me.

Oh darn. I was hoping you lived in Az.
![]() You should def join! Usually, Moms are smart enough to stay home if their kids are showing any signs of being ill. I was the first of all my friends to have any kids. Finding other Moms has been amazing for me and my daughter. I got really close to one girl in particular who has a daughter 2 months older than my daughter. They tell us that they are best friends now. We do play dates at eachother's houses as well as take the kids to do activies and to the park. It makes the days so much better! I hate staying home! |

We moved to a new state when DS#1 was 2 weeks old and we only knew a few people...I joined the Moms Club and I am very happy, so far!
They have playgroups arranged by the birth year of the kids, activities at least twice per week for the kids (meet at a park, a zoo or a mall, we just had a tour of a vet's office and the kids enjoyed seeing all the animals, meet at a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, Little Gym or Gymboree playdates, etc), meet-n-greets, teas, Moms Night Out, etc. I just joined the 2009 playgroup for DS#2 and although he is way too small to actually participate, it's a great way for me to meet new people and to socialize! I would recommend it...GL! |

My husband occupation requires us to move a lot and I have joined MOM's clubs throughout the United States and have met some life long friends. We still are in touch. I've been on the Board for Mom's club. It is really nice to join a group that is established once we have moved to a new location. ^^Jill, my son is Hayden age and he loves the interaction with our small group and it has really helped with his development. It costs $25.00 a year and they have plenty of activites through out the month that you can pick and choose to go through. You can go to their website and put in the area that you live and a Mom's Club rep will contact you. You can go to their Meet & Mingle to see if you feel comfortable. You can also join a small group that meets with their little one once a week. Good Luck!!

I joined one through the health unit and we have all stayed together and meet weekly, join swimming lessons together etc I just came back from having a moms only dinner.
It is a great thing to join and if someone is sick they do not come so no worries :) |

As for activities (in addition to participating in a mother's club) I really like going through my local area's adult school. They have parenting ed classes that are mommy and me type classes you attend with your little one. For instance, the one I attend with my twins is a class where the kids have time allocated for free play, circle time, parachute time and snack time. It's very affordable, it gives your children a taste of the preschool environment, and you get to meet and interact with other SAH parents like yourself. In addition to your local adult school, your local area parks and rec department might offer similar classes to the one I just mentioned. Good luck! |

hi! i am in a moms & tots group- and it has been the best thing for being a stay at home mom. i have made so many great friends through this group and my children have friends through it as well. i get together socially with the moms at least a few times a month and every fri morning our group & kids get together and play. join a group! i was the only one of my friends staying home as well and the reality is that your life as an at home mom is VERY different than that of a working mom. it's a real relief to have friends who have a shared experience. gl!!!
