I thought I would see what everyone's opinions are on this....
Will you be getting it for yourself? Will you get it for baby? Do you think it is safe? I know the flu's can be deadly but I am just not sure about this one... I want to hear your thoughts Thanks

I visited my obgyn today and he said the vaccine should be coming out in October. He's making it mandatory for all his pregnant patients to have the vaccine bc the swine flu is deadly to pregnant women if not caught early enough..so pregnant women are first in line for the vaccine. I'm not sure about babies. But the vaccine is totally safe he said..I will be getting when it comes out.

I'm not sure about this one. DD has an appointment with her pediatrician coming up and I plan on talking to her about the vaccine.

I know my 10 month old won't be getting the shot. I may though, so I don't bring it home to my baby. He's not in nursery so he is probably fine as long as mommy and daddy don't give it to him.

I get the flu shot every year and have given it to my son every year. What I am wondering is...is it the same make up as the flu shot (other then the virus part) or is it all new composition? If it's all new that is what I am concerned about. That it hasn't been tested enough.
My DD will start daycare at 8 1/2 mths and EVERYTHING goes around those places. To those that are getting info from your pedi's please share it here. I am interested in hearing what they all say. |

We went to DD's 12 months well visit last Fri, and pedi recommended that we get both the regular flu shot and the swine flu shot for DD.

I work in a hospital pharmacy and 2008-09's flu shot already had some H1N1 strains in it..

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...t-Exposed.aspx Marin will not be getting the vaccine. I feel the dangers far outweigh the risks. I do not believe I will get the vaccine- def not if I am breast feeding. My husband may. A very personal decision- and def one that you should do your research on. |

My children and my family will not be getting either the regular flu vaccine nor the H1N1 vaccination. The primary issue, as I understand it, with the H1N1 virus is that healthy adults haven't been exposed to it in the past, and thus have no natural immunity like they usually have to parts of the regular flu virus. This makes adults as succeptible as anyone else to contract this flu. But for children, that is par for the course since less life experience means less natural immunity to any flu. So I don't feel that the H1N1 is significantly more dangerous than the seasonal flu, which we don't vaccinate for anyway.
If my children were in daycare I don't know if I would reconsider. My kids are in school (which is just as bad as far as spreading viruses go), but they are also older than the average daycare child. Read up on the virus, its risk and the vaccination and talk to your dr. You will be able to find information to scare the bejeebers out of you either way if you look for it, though. |

DO NOT let babies have it!! Our pedi highly recommends babies do not have it till around 2 yrs old, although 6m is the national minimum for flu shots. Breastmilk is the best defence because it contains antibodies.
My good friend had her very healthy and robust 18 month old get the Influenza A shot, this virus family is closest to H1N1 and she got very ill with extremely high fever and had to go to the hospital. It's just not worth it. Right now it's considered as mild flu, lethal in people who already have a pre-existing medical condition. I'd get vaccinated when the virus mutates and becomes pandemic. |

We will be getting it. We may have had swine flu in May (tested positive for Influenza A but the CDC stopped typing).
We always vaccinate against the flu and this is no different for us. Its a personal decision either way. |

I plan to ask my Ob Dr about it at my next visit next week. I have never had a flu shot before so this will be a new experience for me.

Personally, I would never get a vaccine while pregnant.
I may get this because I will be volunteering at the hospital. I am nursing though, so I will have to do some research first. My children will not be getting this. They do not go to daycare or school yet. |
