I'm going to say a no on this one. My mother received the H1N1 vaccine a few weeks ago, and since then she has fallen very ill. Plus I myself have just given up on flu vaccines as I always catch the flu right after! lol

On Tuesday the High school had 250 absences. By Wednesday it was up to 400. That's about 25% of the student body. The Middle school had 250 that day.
Granted it could be kids "milking it" lol. And scared parents. |

I did get myself, my husband and our nanny vaccinated since we have a 10 month old at home. I also went ahead and had my 2 yr old vaccinated since it was recommended by his ped.
None of us has any issue with it. I would say one thing-there is no way i will get the nasal mist since it's a live virus whereas the injection you actually get dead virus. |

I got a shot today, and my daughter (2) got one as well. She will receive the second dose in about a month. I really had a tough time deciding but I talked to several pediatricians, including family members, and my husband and I agreed it would be better to vaccinate her than to run the risk of her getting seriously ill. I feel like we made the right decision.

My doctor gave me one at my first prenatal appointment. She said they were scarce, but being pregnant made me high risk, so she was allowed to give it to me. I had no side effects whatsoever. I didn't get the flu shot 2 years ago and wound up with the worst flu ever- 3 weeks of fevers up to 104 and two visits to the doctor where they basically told me to go home and rest. I don't want to go through that again! All hail the flu shot!:)

^^ You make a good point. I got the injection because I wanted my DD to get the injection, plus she had a runny nose. I wanted her to see me get the shot right before she did. Of course, she was none too pleased when it was her turn.

My midwives clinic at the UCLA hospital ran out of the vaccine...My hubby and I ended up waiting at a local junior college (SMC) at 9am in the morning. We got in the pregnancy line and hubby was able to get the nasal spray. They wanted him to get the nasal spray since they had more of that in stock and as long as the men were healthy enough, it didnt matter what as long as they took one. Personally, I didnt have any crazy side effect except for a cold sore. I was just extremely tired that day and guess my body couldnt take the vaccine and the fatigue...It was 11:30 am by the time we were done...and the people there were worried they were going to run out before their expected time...there were SOOO MANY PEOPLE!!!
I say, if you have no choice but to go to these free vaccination spots, make sure u get there super early, pack an icebox w/ water & snacks, folding lightweight chairs and blankets. Just to be safe cuz u dont know how long you'll be there...personally, I really wished I had some snacks. |

Sigh. For a while I was waffling back and forth on getting the shot - and then eventually I decided that I wasn't comfortable with it. (Never having had a flu shot, new thing, yada yada.) I was tee-totally against it. Okay fine.
I just transfered to a new doctor's office yesterday and after 45 minutes of them parading people through the room I was in, pushing that I should get the vaccine... I caved. I don't exactly feel good about it, but I don't exactly feel bad about it either. ![]() Apparently the H1N1 vaccine is plentiful in MI, but they are low or out of the regular flu shot... thought that was an interesting situation. (Since our area is out of the regular flu shot, they just told me to not worry about getting one since I got the H1N1.) |

just got my shot this week... i was really debating whether to get it or not but after hearing about the risks, i opted to just do it... i am pretty bummed out that dh couldn't get one though since he isn't considered part of the "high risk" group.. he's a police officer! he responds to all sorts of medical calls but he's not "high risk"??? hmmmmm
