Hi Girls! So last night I started getting swollen glands and a sore throat. This AM I am getting a fever. So what can I take? I'm at week 5 and I am reading Tylenol only...but is this ok before week 8 though? My drs. appt isn't until another 2 weeks. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would take what you need to reduce the fever, as the fever could potentially be more harmful than the tylenol. I am sure you are fine, you are so early that many women at this stage don't even know they are prg and take all kinds of substances and the babies are fine ! Hope you are feeling better

I had this too this week, I just took a Tylenol when I had fever/headaches and drank lots of honey and lemon in hot water to sooth the throat. I felt better after 2-3 days.
If you're worried about taking tylenol so early, call your doctor's office and just ask the nurse for an answer. My nurse is always helpful when the dr's busy. Hope you feel better soon! |

You can take 2 REGULAR strength Tylenol. Tylenol is completely safe although it is the ONLY medication that is considered completely safe for pregnancy(at least in Canada, where I live). You do need to reduce that fever as a high fever is potentially risky for a fetus.

Thanks girls. It's so nice to have this forum. Called the drs office and they said ok to taking it as needed with fever. if it doesn't go down then go in to my GP and get a strep test. The honey and lemon sounds like a great idea!!

I think you should call your doctor and not wait until you actually go in. I got the Flu at week 10, I didn't take anything other than cough drops (ask the doctor first though). Make sure to drink plenty of fluids and rest. Hope you feel better real soon.
