Default Feeling Guilty About Wanting AF to Arrive

So I have two children ages 1 and 2 and have been kicking around the idea of a 3rd off and on for a few months. I am so torn about having another baby especially now. My two boys are such a handful now that some days I feel VERY overwhelmed. Lately my mind set has been "no more babies" I though AF was right on time earlier this week you know got the feelings and I was spotting just a bit. Then nothing. So I am about 3 days late. I took a PT last night and a very very faint pink line appeared... Oh no! So there i was online last night (this morning) reading about "very very faint lines" some say pregnant some say not. I am waiting for DH to arrive with more PTs. I just need to know now. The timing just doesn't seem right. Oh and last night my oldest was up all night sick!! I am on no sleep and freaking out in a tired way.

You poor thing. I understand how overwhelmed you must feel, sometimes I feel the same way and I only have one (with one on the way). I wouldn't feel guilty about how you feel, although I do have to mention that seeing a faint line on the test is not a good sign. Generally, it doesn't turn unless it picks up the pregnancy hormone in your urine so I would def retest especially since you're already late. Don't worry about feeling guilty....when we are tired, it is very difficult to parent the way we want to, especially with very small kids. Feel better sweetie! And keep up posted on the results.

I don't blame you for wanting to know RIGHT NOW! Like you said you are tired and can't think straight. Wait for a more accurate result and then re-evaluate things. I think over time these things turn into blessings in disguise (if you are pregnant). Besides, I always hear that once you have two, you may as well have three . Not sure how true that is though as i have no experience beyond one yet.

Oh I feel so dumb. I mean if I wasn't sure why didn't I take precautions. There was a day last month I was "so ready" and then... I took another test this morning. I waited the 3 minutes and nothing and then 15 minutes later I noticed a very very very faint line. WT?? The directions say not to read a neg test after 10 minutes. So I went scrolling the net for faint lines again... some gals say they have had a false positive. Oh and then I read that one gal was "chem preg" Yikes? What is that? Well I made an appt with my doc for later this afternoon - I guess they'll do a blood test... Thanks ladies!!

Yes I have heard that a lot - that 3 is really not that much different than 2. I dunno know. Right now I just want to cry. I don't think I could handle 3!! I had two great pregnancies but WHAT IF this one is different and I get sick and then have to change diapers and I can't oh dear!! Or like today I am so tired and out of it. My little ones are like velcro today!! Yes, and no sitters are available... Calgon take me away!!!

Since there was nothing at first, what you saw 15 minutes after you took the test is an evaporation line.

Go out and buy a digital test. No evap lines there

Yes, a blood test is your best bet because there will be thousands of people who had one experience while thousands of others have had another. The very faint line that appeared 20 minutes after I took my first pregnancy test was a positive; the hormone levels in my blood just hadn't gone high enough to cause an immediate positive yet. For others, that might have turned out to be a false positive.

And don't feel guilty about being conflicted. I'm not sure anyone is ever totally prepared and ready for another child, even when that child was planned. Having another child is a huge step and it is normal to feel all sorts of different emotions about the idea.

Oh, and for the record, two is MUCH easier than three! At least in my world! I have two hands; we have two parents in our family. It is just much easier to keep track of 2 than it is 3. When they outnumber you it gets tougher. Then again, I've heard that once you hit 3, any more aren't any tougher. But I don't believe that enough to try it!

well don't feel bad about being unsure...when i took my pregnancy test with #2 i sat there and watched the line show up...very clearly..and i sat there and shook my head and said "no...no...omg..no" but now he is a the cutest 3yr old ever...lol

and as for the lines...hmm...the first one is odd. like others have said a line is a line..but then you retested and nothing...the faint line after the 10mins doesn't count.

i wish you all the luck at your doc appt. and just know that whatever happens you will be able to do it...it may not be easy, but you will live through it.

Now this I can help with. I run those "tests" in the lab (Im a medical technologist). I can tell you that there is not much difference in what we use than what you get over the counter. We can use blood or urine and it works the same way. Make sure you have good lighting and read at exactly when the instructions say to. After this time a line may appear because there is a colorless line in the appropriate area for the urine/blood to react with. If it dries this line will be visible and is not a sign of hormone reaction. A faint line is a line because the strip I meantioned before only reacts with the chemical (hcg). You could have tiny amounts reacting. The other point I wanted to hit on was "chem" preg... This refers to the fact that a very high percentage of "pregnancies" end in misscarriage- most before the woman knows she was pg. BUT- if you are taking a test every month you may catch more of these unknown pregnancies. These people are pregnant and are releasing the hormone but for one reason or another it never really "takes" and is eliminated in what the woman assumes is her late period. I hope this helps and makes sense. I know this is hard but I would give it a few days and try again... If it is negative for you at home it will look the same to the techs in the lab... But in a few days if you are pg you will make enough hormone for a strong positive.

^^ oh thank you 3011Sarah. Yes, I was waiting and waiting for the doc office to call. I finally called them!! The lab results weren't in yet. Nice. Although the PA said the doc had taken a look at the urine test I took yesterday and "that number was really low" She said it was "9" and something like a neg is "5" uh ok. And she said that yesterday there was a "faint positive" ok so now what?? My period still hasn't arrived. I was thinking that ok I probably am pregnant. I got into a "ok this is what is happening" and was making the best of it. I didn't want to be pregnant at first, but when it became a possibility I grew well excited but now I may not be. It isn't like me to be this late but I guess anything is possible. I feel hot. You know like when you are on your period hot. I am so confused.

^They are talking about a beta hCg. This is a measurement of the hormone level. It gives an indication of how far along someone is. I really think it is too early (levels still too low). A week will make all the difference in the world.

Oh, I did think of something else that may be important to add... Not really pertaining to this situation but useful information. There ARE other situations in which your body makes this hormone (rarely anything but pregnancy but it does exist). In fact- some cancers make men produce it... Occasionally we will run an hcg on a man and have to call to confirm the order is correct, lol.
