Default exercise while pregnant

I used to work out at least 3 times a week prior to getting pregnant. Since I found out I was pregnant, (about 7 weeks ago), I haven't had the energy to exercise (nor was I up to it b/c of the nausea.) I am finally starting to feel better and I want to exercise again (but just lighter this time).

I know the doctor says that they do not want you to start an exercise routine while pregnant but if you were on one before, you can continue while pregnant. What do you ladies think if I haven't exercised in about 7 weeks (besides 2 mile walks w/ the dogs) but I started using the eliptical a few times a week and just took it easy?

I used to run 4- 5miles 3 times a week befoe I was pregnant. I have not really felt up to running right now. I did run 1.5 miles on Thursday and I have slowed down my pace a lot. My doctor told me to keep running when ever I felt like it. I try to run at a pace where I think I can still hold a conversation also I am watching my heart rate and trying to keep it at 150 max. I would think you could start slow on whatever equipment you like - and stop when you feel too tired. Good luck!

It is true that you need to watch your heart rate, and your water intake while exercising. You do not want to get to out of breath, or have your heart rate sky rocket. My doctor told me that you should keep a steady pace, where you can still talk while jogging/walking. I went for walks every day, I did yoga, and drank lots of water, and I didn't gain much weight at all

Hey Fashion16! So I was like you. I worked out about 4-5 times a week prior to pregnancy. I, fortunately, have not gotten exhaustion during my pregnancy only severe morning sickness. But for me I find the exercise keeps my morning sickness away and gives me more energy. I got these great yoga and pilates prenatal DVDs and absolutely LOVE them!! I also walk and do lunges. I think if you were active before and you are just now feeling better it would be ok. But consult with your dr. and take it lightly in the beginning. I had a gf that jogged up until her 5-6 month! After that she walked.

i think you should be fine working out again. like the others have said...pay attention to your body. if you feel like you are getting tired then you should listen to it...and do stay hydrated. and maybe try some yoga and pilates...they are great. and i was told by a pilates instructor that if you get one of the big balls and just bounce on it that it helps strengthen your "down there" area. so my next pregnancy im def. going to try that out.

I was the same as you, exercising 3 to 4 times a week at the gym until I found out. I haven't exercised for 4 months but I feel like I should to make the delivery easier. I was advised to do just moderate exercises and watch your heartbeat.
