Default Ergo Baby Carrier, any opinions...

Today while at lunch I saw this woman walking with a baby carrier that looked so comfy. I asked her if it was a bjorn and she said no that her baby didn't like the bjorn and she thought this was the best one on the market. Has anyone heard of this or used it?

My sister sells them in her shop and they do very well. I love the black one w/the green lining. I see many moms using them around here in San Francisco. HTH!

My friend in SF met me for lunch with her 20lb 9mo old son in her Ergo... after walking from her home to the train station, then to Union Square. She said that it was very comfortable and did not make her back hurt, even after having him in it for 45 min or so.

I have a Bjorn. With my first son, I used it until he was about 15 lbs, and then it just hurt my back. My daughter is now 12 lbs, and it's OK so far. Since she's my last child, I'm resisting spending money for something like this. However, it is VERY likely I'll be getting an Ergo in the next few months.

Ergo is by far the MOST COMFY carrier I've found on the market today. Yes it takes a little longer to snap in all the straps vs. the BB but your back will thank you. Unfortunately, I couldn't get one (tried the carrier on in the store and walked around w/ it for awhile). My DS HATED to be facing me and wanted to be looking out into the world in front of him, not my chest! I'd def recommend this carrier if your child doesn't care if she's facing you.

I use the BB since it's quick and easy but yes, my traps def hurt at the end of our errand running.

I really like my Pikkolo Soft Structured Carrie..similar like Ergo BUT baby can face forward using this carrier.

Product Description

The Pikkolo baby carrier is a mei tai inspired carrier with the convenience of side-release buckle closures. It allows parents to carry baby painless and with full comfort while maintaining baby in a correct position.

From newborn up to toddlerhood, the Pikkolo will let you carry baby in different positions, including baby facing out!

Pikkolo's unstructured waist indeed makes it possible to cinch the carrier narrower to enable small babies to ride legs-out or older infants to face forward comfortably. All buckles adjust both ways for an optimal fit.

Pikkolo’s Unique Features;

• For newborns and toddlers: recommended weight from 8 to 40 lbs / 3.5 to 18 kg maximum;
• 4 carrying positions possible: front facing in, front facing out, on the hip, on the back;
• Detachable sleeping hood included;
• Adjustable width bottom from 14" to 7-8" / 36 to 18/20 cm;
• Tapered padded shoulder straps for more comfort;
• Sturdy construction, beautiful and safe;
• A great carrier for every one!

Pikkolo baby carriers are made of 100% cotton canvas, except trim lining.

HTH

The lady I saw at lunch said that you can use it with the baby facing outwards, maybe hers is a different version.

You can't put the baby in the Ergo facing out. That's one of the reasons I got the Lascal M1 instead of the Ergo. You can put the Ergo on your chest or your back, though.

Here's a quote from Ergo's site:
Here at ERGO we are advocates of our babies facing inward towards the parent in the vertical front carry position. Dr. Eveline Kirkilionis describes it best in her book “A Baby Wants To Be Carried.” “Infants in outward-facing orientations can’t turn away from surrounding stimuli……that become overwhelming. In this position the baby cannot make eye contact with his or her parent to evaluate facial expressions, social cues, and so forth to make assessment of the situation. Only choose a baby carrier that allows your child to face you…..never out.”

and: The ERGObaby carrier is designed in compliance with the recommendations of Dr. Evelin Kirkilionis, and SHOULD NEVER BE WORN WITH THE BABY FACING OUT.

A couple of the moms in my moms' group have Ergos and love them, but their babies are pretty young, still. It is supposed to be one of the few that you can keep the baby in for more than 2 hours.

I have the Ergo baby carrier and it's okay if the weather is not too hot, cos it can get quite warm after a while after carrying him in it..

But I like it cos he can sleep in it with the head supported. But if he's awake, he doesn't like to be in it for too long thou, maybe cos he's a bit too petite for it...

I loved my bjorn when my DD was little, so when she grew out of it I got an Ergo. I love it! My DD loves to be carried, and it's been a lifesaver on vacations, in airports, walks on the beach, hikes through the woods, places that strollers won't work.

This was in FL last year.

We used it pretty consistently until she was walking, now she usually wants to be down on the ground, running.
