I don't know what happened. One day DS was eating 8-9 oz every 4-5 hours. The next day (two days ago) he's only eating 5-6 oz every 6-7 hours. When he eats, he eats fine. But when I try to get him back to his "normal" feeding schedule he refuses the bottle. He doesn't scream in hunger in between feedings or anything. In fact, the only time he gets fussy is when I try to "force" the bottle on him. When he doesn't want it, he just wont take it at all. Stubborn kid, just like his Mama!
I'm at a loss. His Peds is completely booked today, what with all the kids sick with the flu... but at the same time, DS is fine. Like I said, he doesn't cry, fuss, whatever unless I give him the bottle when he doesn't want it. I could bring him to urgent care but I'd much rather prefer he see his Peds than the MD on call. It's not even that I'm really worried about it (only because DS seems perfectly fine... happy, giggly, overall the same baby he's always been aside from the change in eating habits). Should I really be worried, though? I really don't have much experience with bottle feeding, as DD was 100% bfed. DS eats his solids just fine too. Have any of you experienced this? Do you think it's anything to be overly concerned about? The nurse @ the Peds office told me I shouldn't worry too much, as long as he's eating and not getting fussy about the extended time in between feedings. She said he might be teething? While I agree that DS is probably teething, what does that have to do with the change in his eating habits? Any insight you all could give me is very much appreciated! TIA!!! ![]() |

he is fine, he could be on the back side of a growth spurt....mack is bad about it. she will gulp down a 6oz bottle in like 3 mins and then sleep for 3 hrs. and then she may barely finish a 4oz bottle and only sleep for 30 mins.
he will intake what he needs, if he is fine and isn't acting hungry then he is fine. he will eat when he is hungry :) give him a couple days and he will most likely go back to the larger amount. |

Kids change their eating habits ..ALOT!
As long as the baby is getting enough fluids,he is FINE...so dont worry!! sometimes they r teething...getting sick.....or just slowing down on the bottle....all u can do is make sure he gets enough fluids. My kids ALWAYS were up and down with bottles....its 100% normal! |

Thank you for your assurances ladies! How can I make sure he's getting enough fluids? Just by the # of times I'm changing his diaper, right?
What's weird is DS will let me spoon feed him his formula, he just won't drink from the bottle. But do u know how long it takes to spoon feed 8-9 oz of formula??? A looooooooooooooooong time! Haha... |

I'll always remember my ped's advice whenever I'd bring up feeding episodes like this: "Your baby will NOT starve himself. It's just not going to happen." He's getting what he needs -- no more, no less. I remember both my babies having periods of pigging out, and periods of eating like a bird...sometimes all in one day. Normal!
