I've heard from an OB/GYN that the governing board that sets these guidelines has been considering lifting that age guidance to 40 based on more recent data than the original guidelines had been set by which show that 35-39 have not had significant enough rates in the last several years to warrant making 35 a cutoff point.

That would be a great thing. I tell you from my very 1st appointment where I had just turned 36 mind you they made me feel like I was 50 and pregnant.

I am going for my first "test" on the 15th (trisomy 21 - down syndrome) where they do the blood work and the longer ultrasound. There is no risk there is there? I am having second thoughts about it. I know people get positve results all the time but the baby ends up not having down's.

i'm going on the 14th for mine (nuchal translucency test). it's a non-invasive test so there's no risk. DH & i decided to do it because we just want to be prepared (& have peace of mind), and we agreed that no matter the result we would continue with the pregnancy.

i love my gynecology/fertility doctor and last fall-when i was 34- she said i needed to start thinking seriously about starting a family, if that's what we wanted. she didn't say it would be impossible past 35, but can be a bit more challenging for some women. needless to say that information stayed with me & we had to seriously think about what we wanted. without waiting too long after that initial discussion with my doctor, dh & i made the decision that was right for us.

i rejected all tests for this baby. whatever God has planned for us we'll deal with it the best way we know how, if not, learn along the way.

Do the test! It's very important. They check the amniotic fluid, but don't do it if your not comfortable but I strongly advise you to talk to your doctor about your concerns.

I agree that I would like some peace of mind, but if it comes back positive I have been told that it does not mean that the baby will have down's I would just be in the percentile that needs to definitely have an amnio and more tests later on to make sure. And with that extra long ultrasound we will be getting a good look at the baby and tons more pics so that is a plus.

Ridiculous !! We are feeling and looking fresh and young....and then you venture into the world of Obs-gyn and it becomes scary :(
I am 31, I feel and look like a 26 year old (apparently).....but if I had met a SO I wouldnīt wait much longer to be honest, because I donīt know what my ovaries are like !
And no, I donīt think after 35 is too late, not at all !!
