i don't think having children after age 35 is too late. i think it's pretty common nowadays and is entirely up to the individual to decide when she is/feels ready to have children.
i personally have always wanted to have 2 children only and both by the age of 30. i had my first one when i was 24 and second one at age 27....and i am very happy. having the kids at a younger age also means that the kids get to know both sets of grandparents and both my parents and dh's parents still have all the energy to play with my 2 children. however, having both kids at a younger age does mean that we've to be more careful and wise with our expenditures. i've also opted to become a SAHM (ie. driver, cleaner, cook, etc)*LOL*. there're always pro's and con's, but it's up to each individual to choose which suits them the most. |

My parents tried and tried, and they never conceived until my Mom was 39, she turned 40 a month after I was born. :)
I had my baby at 32. I would be a little nervous about the higher risk for health problems with the baby, but as long as you're healthy, I don't think it's a problem. |

^^Could I ask you if your mother is in good health and still active enough to help you??? Just wondering?? I'm a younger and older mother and I often think about this. With the ageing thing and all.

My Mom is the BEST! She came over every day during my whole maternity leave (4 mos) and helped me with laundry, lunch, whatever I need.
Since I returned to work, she's had my DD one day a week, and they both LOVE it. If my DD goes more than about 4 days without her Nana, she really gets upset. My Mom is a retired R.N., so she was always very active, and thank God she's always been in good health too. Her only setback was a torn ACL she needed repaired, and she was unable to babysit for a few months after that since she couldn't pick DD up. |

Tell me, what was the amnio like? I am so scared it (or especially a CVS) will cause a miscarriage! I understand amnio has been around for about 20 years, and CVS has been around for about 10, so my OB says the higher risk stats for the CVS may go down the longer its been around.
How did you deal with it? It scares me to think about the risk! But if they tell me to do it I will. |

Well, to be honest...yes. Just because there is a higher chance of abnormalities for the child, such as trisomy 21 (down syndrome). If wanting a child at the age or after 35, best thing would be to adopt. Many children out there that need love.

I would advise you to think long and hard about those 2 tests. I was 36 when I had Kayla. I refused all invasive tests because of the risk. The only one I had was the AFP because it was a blood test much later in pregnancy. I will tell you they can scare you will all those tests. I did not want to be stressed during my pregnancy and I'm glad I refused them. I would never have forgiven myself if I had them and then miscarried.
