I'm so happy to see so much positive response to this question! I've always thought it was fine, but part of that is because my mom had me at 35; when it was considered late to have a child. But then, her doctors told her she wouldn't be able to have children due to asthma, and she proved that wrong as well.

I speak from personal experience:
It's not too late after age 35. Keep in mind that it's harder to conceive as you get older. Miscarriages occur more often too. |

I don't think so. I try to tell my BFF the same, since she's so worried about it, too (we're the same age). I'm 32 and my doctor says I haven't even reached full womanhood yet! He calls me a baby!

I have two very close friends who are both expecting in May. One is 38 and the other is 39. However, both of them used fertility treatments.

My Aunt had her first at 39 and her second at 43. They're both very healthy children and she had an easy pregnancy both times.

Since I had my 4th at 41, I would say absolutely not. My kids are very spread out, and what I found each pregnancy is very different, but not necessarily age related.
The one thing that scared the bejeezes out me was down syndrome, the risk does go up quite a bit every year older you are...but over 35 genetic testing is routine so that helped a lot. I have to say, #4 was by far the easiest pregnancy, with no morning sickness, problems, etc at all...and it was also by far my easiest delivery...I was relieved because #3 was by far the hardest pregnancy and delivery and at that time I thought it was because of my age. #1, at 21...easy pregnancy and super fast delivery about an hour and 45 minutes labor and pushing. #2, at 26...pretty easy pregnancy except 1 blip in the beginning and some mild morning sickness, again super fast delivery (induced, due to fast delivery with #1), total labor under an hour, no pushing because they were trying to wait for the doctor, she walked in and caught the baby. #3, at 33...by far the worst pregnancy, lots of bleeding early, thought I was going to lose him for sure, tons of morning sickness, felt pretty horrible the whole pregnancy. By far longest delivery, about 5 hours. #4 at 41, super easy pregnancy, beyond easy deliver total labor about 40 minutes, no pushing...doctor didn't make it, born to the nurse. |

i definitely think its possible to have a baby at 35 or older but it wont come easily to all women. for some getting pregnant is the one thing you can't control, at any age.

I just had my second at 36, in December, and it was a c-section. I can say for me it wasn't the easiest thing I have done. I had a lot of scares, due to my age and other issues. the advance maternal stage was told to me several times... but I have a healthy baby boy.... I was tired and stressed alot..

I had my first at 36 and am thinking of trying for my second this fall while I'm 37 (so I'll have it when I'm 38). There are TONS of moms older than me here in Silicon Valley, lots in their 40s; I had several doctors tell me I didn't need to hurry. I have at least 6 friends who had babies around the same time who are also over 35; two did have IVF (however, for at least one it's due to blocked tubes from PID, so she would have needed IVF at any age; the other I don't know about).

Most people I know are waiting to have babies till they're 30 or over. I'll be 2 months away from my 35th birthday when my second is born, and overall, besides some extra morning sickness, I'm not having any problems. I've got more energy this time around, and I'm working out more because of it. Besides, we're in a much better financial place than we were in our 20s when we were just starting out, which, with kids, makes things SO much easier. I don't really believe there is any particular age that is "too old." As long as your comfortable, why not?

It's harder in terms of energy but totally more fun than when younger. I guess the complications and risks go up at 35 (statistically) but most of the time, everything is just fine. (It wasn't for me, but for most, it is.)
