I have two dogs that do shed a lot. I try to keep up with vacuming, but honestly usually find better things to do! The dogs are in our bedroom at night which is where the baby will be sleeping the first few months. Should I get an air purifier or just be very diligent about house cleaning (not to come off as a complete slob...house is clean, but dogs do shed daily) or does a bit of dog hair not matter anyway?

Humidifiers....should I get one for the bedroom?

Thank you!

not sure about the air purifiers, but i did get a humidifier since we are keeping the room very toasty for the baby so i dont want his skin to dry out.

We got a humidifier but barely used it. I know some people swear by them, but it seemed to make DS more stuffed up rather than less (and it wasn't mold or anything; I cleaned it really well and it's a fancy silver ion one that's supposed to never grow mold, etc.)

Didn't bother with a purifier, even though we had a cat. However, I am also of the school of thought that it's good for their immune system to not have everything be pristine around them all the time.

Now that I'm on baby #2, I have to say that I wouldn't think of either of them. We still have the humidifier, and I haven't moved it into new DD's room. However, we are also in the Bay Area, so winter is our rainier season, and we don't have cold dry air.

We have a cat and don't use an air purifier. We have a humidifier and recently used it when my daughter had a cold and I think it helped. We don't use it all the time, though.

Almost there!!!
I would worry about the purifier only if your house is not well ventilated. Otherwise, just have your ductwork cleaned and you should be fine. We are living in an apt, so we can't do the latter. There's only one window in the room, so we are going to get a purifier.

I have two cats and two dogs and didn't get a purifier or a humidifier. We also have radiators so our house doesn't get super-dry in winter.

We live in a brand new house that has decent ventilation, but I still run the bigger stand up air purifiers in some rooms because I can't stand even a hint of animal smell, and we have two cats. So that was just something I had even before we had kids.

We run humidifiers in each if the bedrooms, even in the house that we had prior to this one that had a whole house humidifier. We just found it more comfortable to be able to adjust each room how we wanted it.

So it probably comes down to personal preference and where you live, as to what you'll need. We live in the Midwest and it gets cold here in the winters, so the humidifers just help the dryness in the air when we have the furnace on so much.

I guess I would only purchase a purifier if you find that baby is having trouble with the dog hair. We have a dog, but the dog has never slept in our bed, so hair is not an issue. If you decide to get a humidifier, make sure you keep it clean. I use one sometimes when the kids are sick.

I agree with this. Try it out without a purifier first and see how it goes.

I have a cool-mist humidifier to use if my LO gets a stuffy nose as it helps relieve it for sleep. I second vhdos' direction to make sure to keep it clean because bacteria can build up in humidifiers if the water isn't drained and changed frequently. Also wash the parts once a week with vinegar (see the directions).

You dont need one of either of those.. its all personal preference really. A humidifier is nice to have if you live in very dry areas like I do. When DS was born we had 2 cats.. never used a purifier.

I wouldn't get anything special unless your child is having reactions.

We have two dogs and our son hasn't had any issues, and I think it's actually pretty good for their immune systems and they're less likely to have allergy issues in the future. I read a study once about it, but I don't remember the details.

I just try to keep up on the vacuuming and the dog brushing, but I don't stress over it. Our son still sleeps in our room most of the time, and our dogs sleep in there as well (but not on the bed). Just try to make vacuuming a priority (which, honestly, you'll probably want to more anyway once you have a baby because you won't want dog hair all over them and their stuff). It's a battle you'll never win, but we're able to stay on top of it most of the time.

We run a humidifier in the winter, because we have really dry winter air plus we have a forced air furnace. It's plenty humid on its own in the summer here.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
I have dogs and I don't have an air purifier. However, I do have a cool mist vaporizer in my daughter's room and use it every night since flu season started. She has her first cold and it has seemed to help with her stuffiness.
