Well, I'd class it as a name that doesn't seem to exist in any culture. So the parents either made one up or used an unusual word as a name.

Or took a name from another culture and adapted the pronounciation and spelling to make it more to their taste.

Some modern names I've come across have been for example:

Jesaray
Keilyn
Raleda
Braelyn
Brynlee
Jareth
Kaius
Zariyah
Tyauna
Shailyn
Nondice
McKenya
Lasarythe

I guess u could call them modern....they're common. I needed it to keep it simple for them lol. I didn't want my children going thru hell tryna learn how to spell their names. All that Ce're'anshe, u can keep!! LoL

My son's name is Wyatt. not sure if that is a modern name or classic (both I think), but both DH and I loved it so that's what we went with. His middle name is Logan and that is definately more modern.

I love the idea of a traditional name with a different or "modern" nickname. That way the parents and the child can feel somewhat original, but if the child becomes Bank President (or president of anything, really) he or she can use their full name and sound more traditional and respectable.

I once worked with a man named Ricky. His given name on his birth certificate was Ricky. Of course, he used the name Rick instead, but I could never imagine why his parents would not have opted for Richard or at least Rick. I like the nicknames Xander (Zander) and Drew, but both are most definitely nicknames that I would never use as a full name. The child ought to be able to choose between a name like Xander, or Alex and Alexander. And a child should be able to choose between Andy, Drew and Andrew.

In fact, I really liked the nickname Drew for a girl, but it was definitely a nickname to me. But the only girl's name I could think of as a longer version would have been Drucilla, which I would not burden a child with (no offense to any Drucillas out there).

I like modern names as I tend to find that older more traditional names come from religion but being in a mixed race mixed culture mixed religion marriage, I just didn't need that discussion.
