Hey everyone...long time lurker on this part of the forum :-)

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and have started looking at diaper bags. I was thinking of using my Longchamp La Pliage (large with long handles) and wanted to use something to organize the inside.

The two options I've found so far are these:

Pish Posh Mommy carryall and diaper clutch (see the smaller pic with the black and white 'bag' in it)

or the Purse to Go (see the pic with the pink organizer next to the Longchamp).

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I have used the identical Longchamp le Pliage for my DD since she was born (she's now 20 months). You'll find with infants, you'll need to lug more stuff and thus may need more organization. As the child grows, the amount of stuff decreases/becomes more manageable, and you won't need to lug as much.

For me for both "stages" I use a Skip Hop Pronto wallet for diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer (http://www.amazon.com/Skip-Hop-Pront...3485795&sr=8-1), a small pouch for my things (wallet, phone, etc) and I stack anything else needed (blankets, snacks, bottles, etc) around the Pronto. You'll probably weed out your personal items to *just* the basics, so you may not need the purse organizer.

Now at the toddler stage I leave the Longchamp in the car and just bring the Pronto with me, which I can put in my purse. If kiddo needs anything else (sippy cup, books, snacks) I take those with me in my purse too.

I agree...the Le Pliage is NOT a good diaper bag, even with an insert, I promise you. I use one now but only because my son is a toddler and I don't need as much stuff. In the first year, you'll want a real diaper bag.

Haha I'm such a brat and I bought a "diaper bag" to go with my Longchamp. Haha. At least I have options now! Thanks for the advice :-)

I use a diaper bag AND a purse just for me... so nothing says you have to put your things in the diaper bag if you don't want to.

Also, just wanted to say that I like your user name - that is one of DH's new mottos...

I <3 Shopping!
Yeah, you will def want an actual diaper bag. Make sure it has loop holes or super long straps so it can fit onto the handles of your stroller. It frees up the compartment underneath for groceries and such. You will have nearly everything necessary in the diaper bag that you will only need your phone, wallet and keys.

Btw, congrats on your bundle!

I have a couple of Timi ad Leslie bags; they have tons of compartments and come with a matching large wristlet.

What are everyone's thoughts on Petunia Pickle Bottom Cake diaper bags? Is there a subforum anywhere on TPF where they are discussed? Many thanks!

I have a Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Glazed bag and I really like it. I also have a Ju Ju Be Be Prepared bag and I use that one more right now. My daughter is 4 months old and I just bring a lot of stuff with me so the Ju Ju Be is bigger. I love my PPB though and I think the size will be great once I don't feel the need to have so much stuff.

IMO the perfect diaper bag will greatly depend on your lifestyle. Will you be a SAHM or work full time? Do you intend to go out a lot? Breast feed or bottle feed? Cloth diaper or sposies? There is not one single diaper bag that will have perfect versatility that is why so many brands are thriving or they will all die a natural death.

Above all, I would very highly recommend a diaper bag that is machine washable and dries quickly. As any parent will tell you one of the messiest things is cleaning up newborn spit ups. All babies spit up while being burped and if your diaper bag is closeby it is going to get barfed on for sure. I wouldn't spend a fortune on a diaper bag not just because it might get soiled but because your needs will change over time you will pack differently for a newborn 0-4 mos old vs 5-11 mos old vs 12-24 mos vs potty training, etc. You would probably use a bigger bag for newborns because you will be carrying more diapers, bottles, smaller bags when babies get less needy, and then bigger bags while potty training - portable potty seat, flushable wipes, extra sets of underwear and clothing, then medium sized bags for preschoolers to contain toys, crayons, small books, snacks, etc.

The PPB Cake is stunning! But IMO not really practical since it stains easily (I have one!) and is a headache to clean even spot clean! And not to mention it is super heavy when empty. Can you imagine how it will weigh when full? I'd think the most practical PPB bags are the glazed ones because they can be wiped clean but there are many other brands that have better durability.

Although my last baby is still in diapers I am finding myself moving away from the diaper bag stage I am loving lighter bags now because sometimes I tend to carry too much.

Bohohobo, thank you so much for your reply and the info! (Bulldog, thank you also!)

I have another question...do Coach outlets ever have diaper bags? I don't carry a lot of Coach but there is an outlet about 45 minutes from me and I wonder if it would be worth the drive to see if they have anything if they do indeed ever stock diaper bags. If they do, I would call before going, but if they never have them I won't bother. Just curious if anyone knows. I've tried doing searches on the forums but I can never find anything specific in the amount of time I have to spend researching! Thanks everyone!

my coach outlet almost always has at least 3 styles of their diaper bags in store, and its not a huge outlet either, so I'm sure you'll find one if you go. but to be honest, i am not really a fan of their baby bags. I've seen their outlet designs and their boutique/online ones, and neither appealed to me.

i personally have the KS Stevie baby bag, and i really like it.

My coach outlet always has diaper bags. That's where I got mine. I have found as they get older there's less I bring with me BUT some of those few things are bigger!! The 6-8 preemie diapers are now 4ea size 4 diapers. The little bottles are starting to turn into sippy cups. Little bottles of juice-baby snacks, Plastic throw away table placemats/liners, & toys. Even the tiny change of clothes has turned into one 12mo outfit. So if they both "mess up" ones going to be outta luck! And theres an extra t-shirt for me. My daughter threw up all over me at a restaurant one time and I had to wear it all the way home!! Won't do that again!!
