Default Cardiologist visit

So I had my first visit with my cardiologist and he said everything looks great. He wants me to come back in next month and then every other month after that.

He said as long as my Mitral valve doesn't start leaking that I should be able to have a normal delivery. The other option was an assisted delivery where nurses would I guess (moms correct me if I'm wrong) would push on my stomach with my contractions. That way I wouldn't be pushing.

So far everything seems to be going well in that aspect, but they told me to expect palpitations and flutters and the baby grows and more blood volume is in my body, which scares me, I've been taking medication for years to not have palpitations and now he's telling me to expect them. I have fainted before from them so they terrify me.

Hopefully I won't have too many of them, thankfully I sit at work all day, kinda bad, kinda good, and usually go once or twice a week at night to the pool and just float. It's funny how heavy I feel after I get out!!!

Have any of you moms had palpitations (butterfly in your chest, or heart flip flopping feeling) during pregnancy?

I didn't, but my best friend has had this. Since childhood she has had an increased heart rate & palpitations, her resting heart rate without medicine would be in the 120's. With medication she was in the 70's. When she got pregnant both times, she had to go off of the medicine because any medication she took would also lower the baby's heart rate. Her cardiologist deferred to the OB doctor, who did not recommend the medication for pregnancy.
With her first child she had a vaginal delivery with no complications. With her second baby, she had a C-section because the OB felt it would be to much strain on her heart to go into labor.
Good luck & have a healthy pregnancy!

Glad everything was good at this visit; hopefully it will continue to go smoothly. I'm sure they can manage your delivery in some way so that both of you come through it safely, even if it means a c-section. Just keep an open mind and remember that healthy mom, healthy baby is what's important, not how you get there!

Thanks everyone! He did say if they became really bad he would but me on beta blockers. But that would be a last resort. I just pray that God has complete control over my body and makes my heart strong and healthy through this.

I don't want to freak anyone out by saying this, but I had severe, frequent palpitations during my pregnancy. I've had palpitations my whole life, was checked out several times by a cardiologist and they told me nearly exactly the same thing: some women just have an irregular heartbeat, nothing major was found on EKGs, etc. Well, things finally came to a head two weeks ago when I had a stroke. They've since discovered that I have a congenital heart defect that was never properly diagnosed. The general consensus is that given the circumstances it's a miracle I'm alive today. I'm scheduled for corrective surgery next week that will hopefully put an end to this mess, because I'm a ticking time bomb in the interim.

Bless your heart, you will definitely be in my prayers. Thankfully I have been on Verapamil to control my palpitations but now that I'm off of it I'm nervous.

Please let us know when you are going in.
