Birth Story
Here is my birth story. My due date supposed to be June 24.
I was one of the girls from the begining of the TTC thread. I got a HPT on 10/29/07.
I went for my 38th week appointment on June 13th at 9 am. Since I have gestational diabetes, they did an ultra-sound to see the size of my baby. I gained less than 20 lbs. I was around 135 lbs and 5’ 3” before my pregnancy.
During the ultra-sound, the Dr from the u/s dept told me my baby was too small, he was around 5 lbs and 3 ozs. They need to induce me NOW. He said my placenta may not work probably and my fluid was getting low. I cried and asked to see my own doctor. He couldn’t find my doctor for awhile, so I asked for my doctor’s assistant. My doctor finally showed me in the u/s dept. He explained the whole situation to me again. Of course, I can’t stop crying.
I got to Labor and Delivery dept around noon. They put a little pill in my vagina. It should soften my cervix. And it usually does nothing to me since this was my 1st pregnancy. 3 hours later, they told me I had contractions every 3 mins, but my cervix didn’t get soft at all. They were going to decide what to do. They came back like an hour, and they put something else to soften my cervix, that was 4 pm. By 10 o’clock, my cramps was getting stronger, the nurse asked me if I wanted some pain medicine. She also gave my husband some bedding so we can get ready to sleep. A resident dr came in and checked me; he believed I was 4-5 cm diluted. The nurse won’t believe him. The attending came in and checked me again. She said I was 5-6 cm diluted. My water finally broke. They gave me epidural around 1 am. I got my epidural, but I can still feel my right hand side. They gave me more epidural.
(Sorry this is getting really long.) Here is the crisis. Another Dr went inside and checked in me and said I was 7 cm diluted and she needs to put something on the baby’s head for his heartbeat. All the sudden, it was like 15 people run into my room, they had to perform an emergency C section. I was still shaking while signing the consent. They rolled me to the operation room and my husband was getting change in the hallway. Once I got into the operation room, I breathed in some sort of gas. Then all the sudden, they told me they can see the baby’s head, I had to push the baby out. More than ten people were talking to me at the same time. After around 10 pushes, my baby boy came out at 1:27 am on June 14.
He is tiny. He was only 4 lbs and 15 ozs. But he was very healthy. Everything was fine except since he was so small and not much baby fat. He had trouble keeping his body temperature.
My recovery was very good. I can walk by myself the very next morning.
I have to say everyone’s labor is different. I never thought of mine would end up like this. It was scary but it was easier I thought.
Sorry to keep the post so long. I just want to share. He is now almost 10 days old. He gained 3 oz in less than a week.
Here is a pic of my little chicken. I have been calling him chicken.
