Default Baby born 15 times above legal adult limit

I have no words for this...

A Polish mother who was intoxicated during labour gave birth to a baby girl who was almost 15 times over the adult drink-driving limit, police said.
Doctors at a hospital in Otwock, on the outskirts of Warsaw, called in the police after the clearly-drunk expectant mother checked in to give birth on Monday.
"A blood test showed that the 38-year-old woman had a level of 1.2g of alcohol at the time of birth," said police spokeswoman Dorota Tietz.
A level of 1.2g of alcohol per 1000g of blood is the equivalent of a bottle of wine or two litres of beer for an adult drinker, but its impact is compounded in a newborn's tiny body.
As a result, the infant was found to have a level of 2.9g, police said.
In comparison, blood-alcohol limit for drivers in Poland is 0.2g.
The mother could face up to five years in prison on charges of having endangered the life and health of her child, Tietz said.
"The baby's life is not in immediate danger, but doctors fear the impact on her development," she added.

While being drunk at the delivery is bad enough, I am guessing this wasn't the only time during her pregnancy that she was tanked. Fetal alcohol syndrome is a real possibility. Anyone who cannot stop drinking for a lousy nine months for the sake of another life... ugh, reproduction ought to be much harder for people!

I'd guess it was a probability. Poor baby; hopefully she or he will find a good, safe home somewhere. I wonder if the mom will actually be prosecuted.

Yikes! I hope the baby is alright, I'm sure the mom was probably abusing alcohol throughout her pregnancy. How sad.

I think she should be put in jail, and not be allowed to see her child at all. If you want to have a child, wouldn't you want to give him/her the best chance at life as possible? I quit smoking because I was pregnant, cold turkey, and it was a little hard, but I did it. Every time I wanted a cigarette, I just thought about my baby, and how I didn't want him to have athsma, or have a low birth weight.
How sad that she was too drunk to experience the greatness of giving birth, and seeing your baby, and holding s/he in your arms afterward.
People like her is why there are services like CPS.

Lock her up and throw away the key.

I really hope the baby turns out okay. People who abuse children are the lowest of the low!
