Are there any veg*n or mixed omni/veg*n households here? This doesn't belong in Food section because I'm asking about lifestyle choices and imparting these values to your children. Please share your experiences with teachers, doctors, etc. You may include the reason for your veg*ism if you wish.
About me: My son is an omni, but my husband and I want raise this l/o meat-free. I'm not an animal rights-type (although I don't support factory farming); I believe that a meat free lifestyle is better for world my grandchildren will be living in. I would really like to hear from other parents who are raising veggie kids. |

I have many friends who are Hindu, and a majority of them live meat-free lifestyles. I love cooking many Indian recipes because a lot of the meals are flavored such that the absence of meat is not noticed at all. I don't think any of them have had problems with doctors/schools though they usually provide school lunches for their kids. Schools here are also pretty good menu-wise; each month they send home lunch menus for the whole month so parents can figure out what days to make lunch, if kids like to eat from the cafeteria also.

I think that once the child is old enough to make a choice, then they should be able to choose what they want to do.
I think it can be very healthy, but then again it isn't if you don't eat the proper things to get the vitamins you need. Either way, whether it be religion or choice of food, I think everyone needs to be able to decide for themselves what it is that they believe and what they want to do. |

Plus, a balanced vegetarian diet is a proven healthy diet, just like any balanced diet. |
