Default Anyone here fail the 1 hour glucose test???

I got the lovely call from my Dr. today that I "failed" the one hour glucose test. I have been reading up on the internet and seems as though many women test with high levels on the one hour test, but sucessfully pass the second. I am hoping that I will pass the 3 hour. I don't know if it hurt the result, but I had cereal and juice an hour before taking it. Any experiences you can share to help ease my nerves????!!!!

Hmmm, my doctor had me fast before the test.

I had gestational diabetes and that was the reason I failed the 1-hour and the 3-hour test. But don't worry, many women failed the 1-hour but passed the 3-hour that's why there are 2 tests. You need to have 2 or more #s higher than normal from the 3-hour test to be diagnosed with GD. Good luck!

I failed the one hour but passed the 3 hour. I had a lot of chocolate that week, maybe thats why. I did the 3 hour probably the next day. Goodluck.

Like Travel I failed the 1 and 3 hour and had GD (and that's how we became friends, LOL). PM me if you have any questions about it.

Good luck!

I didn't. I had to retake it though. That was majorly annoying. Only for the fact that I had to hold in my pee (with a 8 month pregnant woman, that's not fun) and they told me that I was 5 minutes too late, and that I'd have to take the test over on my next apt. That was annoying.
ANYWAYS!! Let us know how it goes!

I have to take the first part today and I am getting really nervous. #1, I hate blood tests in general and the fact that I have to sit there an hour is bad since I will be working myself up for the test. #2, I was told that I could have breakfast, which I did just 30 minutes ago.

My Dr. told me I could have breakfast, as well. Maybe I shouldn't have had such a card loaded one! Anyway, I will take the 3 hour one tomorrow. I already have High blood pressure, so I am praying not to add GD to the mix!

I failed mine as well but I heard that the normal range is set lower for pregnancy so most women will fail it. I dreaded the 3 hr one but was relieved when I heard I passed it.

I failed the 1 hour test with BOTH pregnancies!! I passed the 3 hour one though without a problem. I'm sure you'll do fine!

I personally did not fail it, but I know LOTS of women who did fail the first one - especially if your dr says to not eat anything. I mean, how often do we fast for 12 hours and then flood our bodies with sugar right? It seems a lot of drs are now saying it's okay to have breakfast before the test, which IMO would likely give a more accurate result.

At any rate, good luck with the second one!

I failed the first test too. But passed the second. I fasted for 12 hrs (I think) for both tests.

I failed the 1 hr test with 153. I passed all four tests for the 3 hrs test. I fast for 12 hrs prior to both tests. The 1 hr test is a screening test, so the results are not accurate. The 3 hrs test is a quantitative test. Some drs let their patients eat prior to the 1 hr test, but I am pretty sure you have to fast for the 3 hrs test since the first blood drawing is for your fasting blood glucose level.

Nope, I didn't fail the glucose test for any of my 3 pregnancies. I drank that really quickly, which I shouldn't have b/c I really had to use the washroom not too long afterwards.

Hi Rolexgirl,
I failed all the glucose test in all 3 of my pregnacies.
is this your first baby?
If you do fail the three hour test you could have the pregnancy diabetis,
chances are they will put you on a diabetic diet, and have you test your sugar levels after meals.
the bright side would be it will only last while you are pregnant, as soon as you give birth you'll be fine again.

Now let's just hope you do pass the tests...
if you need more info you could PM me.
dont worry you and your baby are going to be fine
Hugs

Well, it's good to know that there are many of you who passed the second test and that if the tests come back positive, having gd is manageable. It's just a little hard to digest for someone who has never had this sort of a problem with blood sugar. I have been a runner all my life and was a size 2 before I got pregnant. I guess diabetes does not play favorites!
