Ok here's a doozy for ya:

Our 9.5 month old son is crawling out of his crib and I'm freaking out! My DH and I have literally had to run in his room in order to shove him back in his crib when he wakes up in the am. We just tried the Crib Tent to no avail. It's too small for our contemporary crib and no mater which way we rig it, it just won't work and is deemed unsafe/unsturdy.

Now what do we do? We're on pins and needles when he wakes up. We can't even let him play in his crib too long for fear of him toppling over. He's also in this phase where he's waking up at 5a and crying. Unfortunately I can't let him soothe himself back to sleep b/c he stands up in his crib and tries to crawl out again. We're up in arms and so desperate for suggestions.

Help plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see how this is possible. Is the mattress on the lowest setting and the crib rail fully up? Have you removed the crib bumper pad in case he is using it for leverage to get himself over? I just don't see how he can reach if all of these things are being done.?.???

Wow! How tall is he? Is the crib on the lowest setting?

My daughter is in the 95th percentile for height and still can't get out of her crib.

What? Really? My daughter, like Julie's, is also very tall and cannot get out of her crib!

Okay, first:

What do you have in the crib? Bumpers, toys, etc? If so, take those OUT.

Set the matress on the lowest setting possible and if you can adjust your rails, move em up!

My son use to sneak at 7 months into the kitchen. We had a gate up. We finally busted him. He would climd the gate. He started walking at 6 1/2 months! His legs were so bow legged from walking early, but they corrected themselves. My daughter walked at 7 months. My grandmother told me I walked at 6 months so they got this from MAMA!

Tay FELL out of her crib once before she reached 12 months..THATS the time to switch to a toddler bed,Im afraid to say!!
....use a safety rail on the bed and get a gate. The minute they can get out of the crib..im afraid its time to switch to a bed..sorry!!other wise they can get more hurt if they fall.
First make sure the crib is at the lowest setting and like the other gals said..Take EVERYTHING out of crib ...they can use it for height

Don't switch to a toddler bed, it's too early! I'm a Mod on a twins website and w/ double the amount of children believe me, I HEAR IT ALL! LOL!
Trust me on this, go get a crib tent from Babies R Us.
One of my twin boys climbed and fell out at 11 months so I bought one for each boy, best $$ I spent.
A crib tent may look . . . well freaky, LOL! But it will get you 2 more years out of the crib and A LOT of peace of mind knowing a baby not mature enough is in a toddler bed they can get out of and roam the house at night when you think they're sleeping

Here's the one we used from when my guys were 11 months to almost 3 yrs old:

Nothing new to add but yeah, make sure the crib is at the lowest setting, remove the crib bumper or toys because baby may be using them to climb out. I second the crib tent because at 9.5 months no baby should be or needs to be in a toddler bed.

^^I agree with swanky. Get a good crib tent. My DD is a climber, although she hasn't tried to climb on the crib she climbs everything else.

I agree with all the girls, bumpers and stuffed animals should all be out of the crib. Mattress should be at the lowest level possible. My first daugher was also a climber...NOTHING was safe!!! I'm so relieved that she NEVER ever tried to climb out of her crib though!

Tent does look a bit freaky, but if baby doesn't scream and yell about it and it keeps baby safe it is worth the money! And your peace of mind!

^I put the crib tent up in the morning so my guys had all day before a big night's sleep to get used to it. They actually loved it as they thought it was more like a toy! LOL!
I put a few toys in and let them play in there to loosen them up.

We are using a crib tent for my 2 yo very successfully. If you do all the things the pps suggest, my only other suggestion would be to buy a new, cheapie (but not toooo cheapie) crib to use with the crib tent. You'd probably get another year out of it.

THx for all your responses guys...like I previously had stated, I already bought the Crib Tent and it doesn't fit our crib. It's too small and we can't seem to rig it to where it's sturdy enough to w/hold DS's banging around.

Everything is out of his crib except for his tiiiiny animal with which he sleeps. This is how he does it from what we see from our monitor:

Our crib is a Pali so it's more contemporary. It doesn't have a side that lowers and raises like most cribs. It has all fixed sides and one side that's up against the wall is higher than others (much like a headboard on a regular bed). The mattress IS on the lowest setting too. Anyway, he grabs hold of the horizontal rail with his hands and then takes his feet and props them up against each vertical railing for leverage and then keeps inching his way up w/ his feet (kind of like smearing for all the rock climbing junkies out there). Hopefully that makes sense to y'all.

That's why I'm at a loss!
