^^^ Its more the person wearing the coat if you get what I mean.

Some people can wear Burberry and its Class -others it just screams Chav.

Same with anything tho I guess!!

This is embarrassing to ask but I don't know the answer. What does "chav" mean? Is it short for another word? The word isn't used in the US. I hope I'm not asking a silly question.

^^^^ Haha I just asked this question a few days ago. It means someone that trys to have class, but doesn't. If you are in the US, the comp would be the term "trailer trash".

Uh oh the Burberry issue again! Over here Burberry was jumped on by the Z list celebs and it has become associated with the 'loads of money, no class' brigade - hence the chav tag.
Mulberry's reputation is of quiet style, carried by people who don't have to broadcast how much they own or have through their clothes or bags.

I would love a cream Burberry trench but I am not keen on their bags, the leather ones or the novacheck ones. The novacheck does have a reputation as being 'chavvy' here. Football fans aren't allowed into stadiums if they are wearing Burberry as it became the uniform of racist, trouble making footbal thugs. I think the reason this happened with Burberry and not LV etc is Burberry made cheaper things such as baseball caps that were affordable to most people and this cheapened the brand. Mulberry used to be more of an older persons brand but became popular when Luella Bartley designed for them, then there was the Bayswater and the Roxanne and the rest is history!

There's quite a good explanation on wikipedia about the word 'chav' (sorry I'm too much of a dummy to post a link ) I'd also heard that it stands for 'Council housed and Violent' (which they mention too) Hmmmm, either way, it ain't complimentary!

They don't use the word 'chav in Scotland . They use 'ned' .. non educated delinquent.

We use the term Dave from Kwick Save.

I think everyone has a different definition of the word - I always thought it was someone who lives beyond their means - & wears tacking clothes & bling jewellery to make themselves look more wealthy than they are.

There was a pic that showed the whole thing, the buggy, the lot,but I never found it,all I could find was this one,a US lady was asking me what a chav was and why it was connected to Burberry, and why it was a bit shunned by us Brits, the pic said it all!!!
She thought it was hilarious, and was also glad that Burb had never reached that unfortunate pinnacle of its notoriety over there!!
I personally love the check, and I think the colors are great, catch me wearing it though, not a chance!!!!
