Kerilynn, I agree with the other girls, the Mabel looks absolutely stunning on you and being a big admirer of AMcQ skull scarves myself, I think pairing the two was a stroke of genuis. ...but there is something I don't quite understand following on from your conversation with Ditab about how best to carry the bag. I actually bought and returned both a Midnight and Patent Purple Mabel (long story as to why I bought both in the first place as documented on a post I wrote way back). Anyway, the main reason I returned them was because I could not, for love nor money, get the bag to stay on my shoulder . I'm roughly the same build as you from your description, but I had a titanic struggle to get the straps up onto my shoulder in the first place and then one of them kept falling down, no matter how I tried to anchor it . Could you enlarge on the technique you're using to keep the bag on your shoulder ( can you manage to wear it like that over a coat ?) ...I didn't quite get the angle under the arm thing you were describing and I'm genuinely fascinated to know whether I'm the only doofus who had this problem with this bag ( and of course having now seen your pics, I wish I'd tried a bit harder to work with the ones I returned ).

^^I don't have enormous arms, so I can wear it over my shoulder even when I have a coat on.
I tend to lift my shoulder a bit I suppose and then put that hand in my pocket. Sometimes I loop my thumb over the strap to keep it on, but I never have an issue with the straps falling down. |

The scarf matches the bag perfectly, which is fantastic.
Who could not love a dark purple AM scarf and a Mabel?? |

Tee hee So pleased that I'm not the only one who doesn't know how to carry a double strap shoulder bag! What I've done with my Poppy is just put the straps on my shoulder and then wedge the bag out the back - sort of at a 45 degree angle. I felt a bit self-conscious about having the bag poking out but DH said he sees loads of people carrying bags like that. I wouldn't be able to do it if the bag was stuffed to capacity and, I have to say, I wouldn't be able to carry a regular Mabel that way as the straps are too short for me. But I am much taller than you and Kerrilyn. The large Mabel would be fine, though. |

^^Yes, I literally just tucked the bag behind my arm. It is what I have always done, maybe it goes back to my rucksack wearing student days. Underneath the arm is too bulky for me and not comfortable.
I do always make sure the zip opening is closet to under my arm so no one can get inside. Bear in mind that most of my bags are not easy to get into, or for anything to fall out. I am going to have to be careful with my Phoebe. I usually go for a zipped or securely strapped bag. That was my major issue with my Jacquetta, I hardly used it because I was afraid everything would fall out. Okay, Kerilynn handbag holding tutorial done.

The girl who sold me my Poppy has also got a navy AM scarf for sale. I am thinking about it as it would go so well with Poppy (both in colour and style) but I'm not a huge fan of skulls so I'm really not sure.... I do really like the size and fabric of the AM scarves, though

Naughty kroquet - those scarves are a bit kerching!!! Gorgeous, though. That said, I don't think they do the size I'm after - 102 x 120cm - so not square but not long and narrow either. I'm so difficult!! |

^^AM does have a skull theme for sure, but I really like it.
It's a bit edgy, but still colourful and pretty!! ![]() I bought the purple scarf ages ago, but I also have a black and white and a pale pink and black. Harvey Nic's do loads of colours! I also really like the Missoni silk scarves...really gorgeous!! I love scarves!! |
