That would be because caramel is made from sugar.

My DH stock piles when things are on offer. You should see how many boxes of diet coke are in our garage and we don't need to buy dishwasher tablets for at least a decade.

They are very beautiful. However, on both bags (still brand new, on display) I noticed hard little wrinkles- crackling like, forming at the top. "charity shop bag" sprang to my mind suddenly - have you seen those pityful forlorn bags in charity shops, patent with their little cracks...
I think, if you are a woman who buys a bag for a season to wear every day until it falls apart - you can go for patent, as you will have the safety of guarantee, and by the end of the first years you will know already if there is a quality/look problem with your bag, and will exchange it if bad.
But I buy my bags to last me a lifetime, quite rarely worn (I have quite a few), but to stay with me forever, so I can be a little old happy lady clutching her favourite 40-year old vintage Mulberry one day. I want them to stay, to remind me of my life stories, of old bruises from sofa-falls. I am afraid, the patent will not stand the test of time - it will look broken , crackled. This is in contrast to how an old battered oak Bays would look - old and lovely.
I also think, if a girl works in an office- this is a bag for her, it is worth it. I cannot use my bags at work, only on the way to-from, and meetings.
Completely agree with you here- I want classics that will get better and better with age- love the black patent bays but know I couldnt live with it looking creased and not pristine

At least as Jenova says, I don't have to food shop - that is one luxury!

I tried it when we first moved in together but he didn't like the fact i bought different brands, so he has done it ever since! Suits me!

Not keen on patent personally- always think it looks a bit plastic but then i've not really had a good look at any quality patent bags. can't get the plastic thing out of my head. In fact not keen on any kind of shiney leather- love matt darwin!

I love patent and still have my first designer bag- kieselstein cord bag from the rocking 80's. Still feel a bit Dynasty'ish when I drag it out- but I love the look of patent.

Not shoes though.
